• It is estimated that more than 3,000 people attended the Davis-Shafer Sale, which was held Thursday of last week at the Fairview Stock Farm east of Fairfax. It was one of the largest crowds that has attended a public sale in this area in recent years. Total receipts of the sale were just $2 shy of $20,000.
• C.P. Kincanon started work Tuesday morning on the construction of a five-room modern residence on the lots he owns across the street north from the northwest corner of the city park.
• Monday evening, 63 members of the local American Legion post drove to Rulo, Nebraska, to enjoy a fish supper. This feast has become an annual Legion activity and its popularity with the members is growing.
• Showing at The Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “The Arizona Ranger” with Tim Holt and Jack Holt, “Neptune’s Daughter” with Esther Williams and Red Skelton, and “Big Jack” with Wallace Beery, Richard Conte, and Marjorie Main.

• The choirs of the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches are joining in presenting a program of Christmas music at the Presbyterian Church Sunday night, December 15. Directing the combined choir will be Margaret Graves and Judy Mathers from the Presbyterian Church and Mrs. Chas. H. Moore of the Christian Church.
• Santa wants to meet all the children Saturday, December 14, at the Bowhunters Building. He will have a treat for all. Sign up at local businesses for the chance to win a color television!
• Fairfax Community Betterment has recently received a Certificate of Special Merit award for successful participation in water system improvements in the community.
• A profitable project of Community Hospital Auxiliary is needing more workers to keep it going. The Thrift Shop, which has been open for a year in Tarkio under the supervision of Wilma Mingus, has cleared over $2,000 and provided a useful service to the area in recycling used articles to those who need them.
• Mrs. John E. Martin entertained with a special dinner in her home Saturday, December 7, honoring her husband, S/Sgt. John E. Martin, who had returned Thursday from Thailand. Eight guests were in attendance.

• Each Christmas season, Mary Wasserfallen of Fairfax sets up a snow covered village that she has made by hand. She began this hobby in 1987 and each year, the 1880’s village complete with horse drawn sleighs and such grows. She has a total of 26 buildings, 80 people, two snowmen, three dogs, and 22 other animals in her village.
• Burke & Sons Lumber Company, Inc., with lumberyards in Rock Port and Fairfax, Missouri, is celebrating 50 years of doing business in Atchison County. The company was started in 1949 by Willis Burke and his two oldest sons, Charles and Reed. After the second year, the youngest son, Gilbert, joined the business.
• The Fairfax Lady Bulldogs defeated the Rock Port Lady Blue Jays on Friday, December 3, to win the Mound City, Missouri, Basketball Tournament.
• Community Hospital Auxiliary members made angels to give to the hospital patients during the Christmas season.
