Karen S. Freeman, 76, of Smithville, Missouri, formerly of Carrollton and Tarkio, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Oak Pointe of Kearney, Missouri.

Karen was born on September 20, 1948, to Harold “Wayne” and Lorena (Epley) Freeman, in Maryville, Missouri. She attended Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Missouri, graduating in 1966.

On July 9, 1966, Karen was united in marriage to Larry G. Freeman, the love of her life. Together, they became the proud parents of two children, Jeff and Jana. The family made their first home in Tarkio, where they began building their life together. In 1978, they moved to Pender, Nebraska, and later relocated to Carrollton, in 1985. In retirement, Karen and Larry moved to Smithville, Missouri, where Karen resided until her passing.

Karen was a dedicated homemaker, lovingly caring for her children during their early years. Later, she pursued work outside the home, first at a photography shop in Pender, Nebraska. After the family’s move to Carrollton, Karen spent over 20 years working at the Carrollton Area Career Center, where she was known for her dedication and hard work. She retired in 2014, after a fulfilling career.

Karen was a member of the United Methodist Church and served in many capacities while living in Carrollton. She also was a member of PEO and held every officer position including president. She loved shopping, being outside, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Karen was also an avid Chiefs fan. Most of all, Karen enjoyed spending time with family.

Besides her parents and husband, Larry Freeman, Karen was preceded in death by brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill (Shirley) Fischer and Janice Freeman. Survivors include children, Jeff Freeman, Dearborn, Missouri, and Jana (Eric) Stevens, Kearney; grandchildren, Jacob, Maddi, and Caleb Stevens; sister, Linda (Jim) Hedrick, Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan (Sandra) Freeman, Tarkio, and Marvin Freeman, Rock Port, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, conducted by Pastor Cathy Riggins. Open visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service. Interment will be at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. Memorials may be directed to Home Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
