• Walnut Chapter No. 532, Order of the Eastern Star, will hold a public installation of the 1950 officers Monday night at the Masonic Hall. Miss Mary Jane Truman of Grandview, Missouri, Associate Grand Matron of Missouri and President Harry S. Truman’s sister, will be the installing matron.
• The Tarkio Truck and Tractor Co., Inc. received an award last week from the International Harvester Co. for the high record of sales in Division 3. Their record was the highest in tractors and trucks.
• Tarkio’s big community Christmas program will be presented Wednesday in the Community Building. Around 250 adults and children will be participating in the event.
• A capacity crowd filled the United Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon for Tarkio College’s 17th annual Christmas Vespers, under the direction of Gavin Doughty. George Frederick Handel’s famed oratorio, “The Messiah,” was performed. The program included a 31-piece orchestra, 43-voice a capella choir, and seven student soloists.
• Sunday’s weather included thunderstorms, high winds, dropping temps, and a flurry of snow. Friday was glazed with snow and ice, but Saturday night was as mild as a May morning. However, on Sunday, the weather was so dramatic it even caused a bolt of lightning to strike a tree at 4th and Chestnut and break six windows of the Carl Vance home. A big window was also broken, plaster cracked, and new water heater burned out at the Herbert O. Watkins’ property.

• Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Marrs will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at their home December 22.
• Specials at U Save Mart, 316 Main, Tarkio, include: Kodak CX126 instamatic color film, $1.27 (20 exposures); package of three flashcubes, 83¢; and Ray-O-Vac flashlight batteries, 2 for 37¢.
• At approximately 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, a 1,000 gallon hot water heater emptied in the basement of Tarkio High School, temporarily shutting off the heat and water. The drain plug on the large tank burst, leaving a foot to three feet of water standing on the basement floor.
• Tarkio students watched the sun disappear at about 9:00 a.m. Friday during a solar eclipse. Dr. Niedermeyer supplied them with X-ray paper so they could view the eclipse without damaging their eyes. Many tried to capture the eclipse on film by means of a special lens or some other attachment on their cameras.

• Wrestling homecoming candidates at Tarkio High School are: queens – Tasha Gibbons, Mackenzie Martin, and Cathy Farley; and kings – Jimmy Lindsay and Tim Vette.
• Malisa Linthicum of rural Tarkio came to town Saturday to purchase a Christmas tree for her family. Despite being strapped down, the tree blew out of the back of the pickup on Malisa’s drive home. It landed on the second bridge east of town. Malisa turned around to stop traffic to pick it up, but before she could get there, a car going fast hit the tree, sending the tree over the side of the bridge and into the Tarkio River below.
• Mike Tullis of Tarkio made a replica of the Missouri State Seal using the computerized router in the industrial arts department at THS his senior year. On November 12, he presented it to Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan in Jefferson City.
