The 2025 Tarkio FFA Calendars have been printed and will be available at Tarkio businesses later this week. These free calendars include East Atchison sporting events, Tarkio R-I school events, and the birthdays and anniversaries of Tarkio residents, as well as listings for area businesses.

The Rock Port Ministerial Alliance will sponsor “Sing We Now of Christmas” at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, at the Rock Port Baptist Church. Choose your favorite Christmas carol, and bring prayer needs, words of thanksgiving, and testimonies of faith.

Community Hospital-Fairfax invites all to come take part in the annual Christmas Hall Sing Thursday, December 19, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the hospital. Those attending will sing Christmas carols in the hallways for hospital residents and staff. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be on hand and refreshments will be provided.

Mrs. Claus will be reading to children this week at the Tarkio Library Thursday, December 19. Story time will begin at 6:00 p.m. The library is located inside the Tarkio Resource Center.

Volunteers will be ringing The Salvation Army bells in Rock Port on Friday, December 20, and Saturday, December 21. Please make a donation if you are able, as 84% of what is donated locally stays in Atchison County.

Schools will be dismissing for winter break this week: Tarkio schools will dismiss early Friday, December 20, and students will return on Monday, January 6; Fairfax schools will dismiss early Friday, December 20, and students will return Tuesday, January 7; and Rock Post schools will not be in session Monday, December 23, through Monday, January 6, (they will return Tuesday, January 7).

The first official day of winter is Saturday, December 21, although we’ve been pretty lucky with some warm days and very little precipitation so far.

A free community health screening will be held Saturday, December 21, at the Watson Community Building at 204 State Hwy. BB, Watson, Missouri. The screening will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. The free lab draws and health screenings are provided by your local Atchison County Health Department.

The Tarkio Baptist Church will hold its annual Live Nativity will be held Sunday, December 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A soup supper will also be served during that time. Come to the church and witness the scene of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the three wisemen, angel, shepherds, and animals in the stable with the telling of the birth of Christ.

Stop by the Atchison County Courthouse in Rock Port Friday, December 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. to say a fond farewell!
