December 30, 1949
• Charles Wayne Stevens, 8-year-old son of Charles Stevens of Tarkio, was taken to the Fairfax Community Hospital on Friday where he was treated for chest injuries suffered in a sledding accident. The boy was trying out a new sled Friday afternoon when he was struck by a car.
• The Tarkio area shivered under a new seasonal low of 12 degrees below zero last Friday morning. The low mark was registered at 1:30 a.m. at the local U.S. Airways Communications station. Temperatures reached a mild 47 degrees Wednesday with winds recorded up to 28 miles per hour on Saturday.
• The Westboro Wildcats and Tarkio Indians wound up their pre-holiday schedules last Thursday night with a 43-38 victory for Westboro.
• First National Teller Tells column: “Thank you to the 550 young fry of the community who came and sat on Santa’s knee ’neath the Christmas tree and made the Christmas of the First National Bank folks much happier.”
January 2, 1975
• The mobile home at 100 Sycamore Street was totally destroyed by a fire Sunday morning along with all the contents of the occupants, newly married Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gebhards. The couple was not injured, but all the contents, including gifts received at their wedding, were consumed. Flames had completely engulfed the home when firemen arrived.
• Normally an entire year will not see two large Kentucky bass submitted for inclusion in the Department of Conservation’s Master Angler Club. But the latest group of listings in the club includes two, one of which is only two ounces off the state record. Of the several members, one is Carol Zembles of Tarkio, with a 36 pound buffalo.
• First National Teller Tells column: “We went to May’s to get a new artificial Christmas tree. They only had one, the floor display tree, so they took it apart and boxed it for us. On the way home we realized that they had forgotten to put in the stand. But it was a bad, foggy, wet night so we decided to wait to go get it. We had not been home an hour when there was a bang on the door and their stood a May’s employee who had driven on the bad night down to deliver the stand.”

• Ed Moore of Tarkio lost his home and belongings to a house fire Tuesday, December 21.
• The winter solstice, lunar perigee (the point in its orbit where it comes closest to the Earth), and full moon combined on Wednesday, December 22, making for one of the few times in the last 150 years that the moon appeared bigger and fuller and was easily visible for a longer period.
• Tarkio’s lighting contest winners include: North side – 1st place Wayne and Linda Bennett, 2nd place Kalvin and Stephanie McIntosh, and 3rd place Jim and Ginny Prather; South side – 1st place Gary and Lana Davison, 2nd place Tarkio Valley Group Home, 3rd place Darryl and Merylan Lowrey; and Business – 1st place Flower Mill, 2nd place Northwest Missouri Learning Center, and 3rd place The Walnut Inn.
• Tristan Toben, 3 1/2-year-old son of Joshua and Beth Toben of Tarkio, won the 6 foot stocking filled with toys given away by Woodruff Arnold in Tarkio. Tristan’s name was drawn during the Elf Auction.
