• Come in and see how the Maytag Dutch Oven gas range cooks with a cooking demonstration Wednesday, February 8, at the Holden Appliance Co. in Tarkio. An ironer demonstration will also be held that day. You can also see the store’s new Maytag automatic washer.
• At The Tarkio theatre: “Sorrowful Jones” with Bob Hope, “Make Believe Ballroom” with Virginia Wells, “Beyond Glory” with Allan Ladd, “Inspector General” with Danny Kaye and Barbara Bates, and “Great Sinner” with Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner.
• Dr. J.A. Thompson, president emeritus of Tarkio College, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Wednesday. Dr. Thompson presided over Tarkio College for 43 years as president. He often jokes that all great men including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and himself were born in February.
February 6, 1975
• Carl Bernstein, reporter for the Washington Post and one of the key news reporters who covered and assisted in bringing information of Watergate to the public, will speak at Tarkio College February 12. Bernstein, along with Bob Woodward, earned the Pulitzer Prize and every major journalism award given this year including the Drew Pearson Award, the George Polk Memorial Award, and the University of Missouri’s Department of Journalism Gold Medal.
• The First National Bank has purchased a night scene of the David Rankin Mule Barn by local artist Rod McGehee. The work was done during the January design course at Tarkio College.
• Two Tarkio College students were killed in a car crash east of Route J on Hwy. 136 between Tarkio and Rock Port February 1. The 18-year-old driver, from Florissant, Missouri, and an 18-year-old passenger from New York, both in the front seat, were pinned in the vehicle after it lost control on the curve, slid sideways down the highway for 180 feet then went into the road ditch and slid another 80 feet before striking a utility pole. A 19-year-old passenger, also from Florissant, was thrown from the vehicle and an 18-year-old passenger from St. Louis was partially ejected.
• The Concert Choir, the Tarkio College Singers, Professor William Mansfield, Misa Jovanovic and Jelina Jovanovic and the Kuntayas will appear in concert at the Tarkio First Presbyterian Church February 10. These young people have been an inspiration to the more than 50,000 people who have seen them in concert.
• The Tarkio High School Farm Structures class has completed their long list of projects, including a reconstructed wagon, eight feed bunks, a hay wagon, an FFA sign for advertisements, and rebuilding a two-wheel trailer.

• The NE MO KA Craft Guild of Falls City, Nebraska, recently donated $50 to the Community Care Facility’s food pantry in Tarkio.
• Jackson Insurance of Tarkio, an affiliate of Bussard Insurance Agency in Tarkio, has recently transferred its property and casualty insurance business to Tarkio Valley/3 B’s Insurance.
• The Cub Scouts in Tarkio held a father/son bake-off January 25 at the Tarkio Community Building. Overall winners were Danny Hogue (1st), Kyle Heits (2nd), and Johnathon Stout (3rd). Danny received a $20 gift certificate to 10th Street Restaurant in Tarkio. Kyle received two free buffet meals from Dave’s Convenience in Tarkio and Johnathon received one free pizza from Pizza Hut in Tarkio.
• A free internet workshop, Senior Surf 2000, for senior citizens in the Tarkio area, sponsored by the Tarkio High School FCCLA Chapter, will be held every Thursday during the month of February.
