• Judge Higgins of Maryville, Missouri, has leased the new block building of Fred Smith across from the highway from the Fairfax Elevator and is preparing to open a farm equipment store there, under the name of the J.H. Farm Supply.

• Specials at the Fairfax Locker Plant include: Tide, 26¢; Flavor-Kist crackers, 1 pound box for 25¢; Jack Sprat evaporated milk, 2 tall cans for 23¢; Swift Brookfield pure pork sausage, 31¢ per pound; and Karo syrup, 19¢ for 1 pint.

February 13, 1975

• Hunter’s Hy-Klas Store in Fairfax advertised Armour Star slab sliced bacon, $1.19 per pound.

• Miss Aimee Jane Baker became the bride of Lane L. Seymour at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn January 11. The couple spent a short honeymoon at Lodge of Four Seasons at Lake of the Ozarks before leaving for Viejo, California. Ensign Seymour is stationed at Mare Island Naval Station nearby.

• Community Hospital Association in Fairfax has been linked to a national computer network which will enable the hospital to receive computer and cardiologist analyzed electrocardiograms (ECG) in a matter of minutes on a 24-hours per day, seven days per week basis.

• J Smith was in Jefferson City Saturday to compete in the Missouri State Hoop Shoot, sponsored by the Elks Club. J finished third, making 21 out of 25 shots.

• The Fairfax Elementary third graders have given their secret recipes for the perfect friendship: Scott Clark – 1 cup caring, 2 cups understanding, 2 cups kindness, 4 tbs. patience, 3 tbs. humor, 2 cups positive attitude. Combine caring, understanding, and beat well. Stir in patience, humor, and positive attitude until well blended. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Top with love as needed.

• Fairfax High School students had the opportunity to job shadow a business professional during the second annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Day Wednesday, February 2. Students and their job shadow locations included: Traci Davis, Fairfax Family Practice Center; Kyle Rentschler and Corie Hicks, Community Hospital; Jennifer Ray, Community for Kids Preschool; Jake Johnson, Atchison County Sheriff’s Office; LeAnn Graves, Atchison County Courthouse; Kara Kemerling, the Flower Mill; Jim Pinnell, Fairfax R-3; Brett Johnson and Chris Brown, Skeet’s Body Shop; and Crystal Pester, KG Buds.

• The City of Fairfax experienced well pump problems on February 5. City employee Jerry Moses was making a routine check at the water plant when he discovered the pump was not properly working. The pump had to be pulled to replace the motor and a used one was put into place. An electrical transformer near the well had also been blown. It took awhile to fix, but Fairfax residents were not without water for any length of time.
