Jack L. Millsap passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 29, 2025, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri.
Jack was born December 29,1942, in Maryville, Missouri, to Orval “Ted” L. Millsap and B. Frances (Van Gundy) Millsap. He was raised on the family farm outside of Rock Port and attended school at Rock Port R-II, graduating in 1960. Jack attended Kansas University for one year and then joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Trabzon, Turkey, as a radio intercept analysis specialist until his honorable discharge in January of 1965.
Jack married Betty Sue Wallace on August 13,1966, in St. Joseph, Missouri. They became the parents of three children.
Jack worked in the parts department at Ford Garage in Tarkio for several years until he was elected sheriff of Atchison County, Missouri, serving three terms. During this time, he reenlisted in the US Air Force Reserve as a special agent with the Office of Special Investigations, serving for 20+ years until retirement. Jack had many talents and hobbies. In his younger years, he built and raced dirt track cars. He bowled on leagues and liked to play pool with colleges. Jack did some beautiful carpentry and woodworking projects. He enjoyed collecting coins and pocket knives and never missed a chance to show off a piece of his collection to his grandkids. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan. Jack loved history and studying the bible. He was a member of the Tarkio First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by brother-in-law Gerald Lee, nephew Bill Lee, granddaughter Devin Faith Millsap, and grandson Kevin Michael Beck.
Jack is survived by his children, Miranda Thomas, Troy, Missouri, Shellee (Chris) Hall, and Chris (Sarah) Millsap, Rock Port; former sons-in-law Mark Thomas, St. Peters, Missouri, and Scott Driskell, Rock Port; sister-in-law Cindy Lee, Tarkio, Missouri; brother-in-law Phil Wallace; grandchildren Shawn (Ashley) Beck, O’Fallon, Missouri, Danielle (Josh) Stewart, Hazelwood, Missouri, David Beck, Malakoff, Texas, Jonathan Thomas, St. Peters, Andrew (Courtney) Thomas, O’Fallon, Kyle (Carrie) Driskell, Brittany (Kory) Paris, Case, and Jovie and Rhett Millsap, all of Rock Port; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces Missy (Robert) McClellan and Barbie Lee; and numerous cousins.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Online condolences may be left at www.chamberlainfuneral.com.
