Lots of new things are going on at the Rock Port Senior Center. If you have been in to eat lately, you have seen all the work done at the center, including brand new floors and a beautiful new color scheme. We went from yellow and blue to several shades of brown and all the colors came together nicely. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the project and to the contractors who did the floors. This project was made possible with funding appropriated by the Missouri General Assembly from the Senior Services Growth Development Fund. The funding is overseen and dispersed by Young at Heart Resources, the Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging.
All staff and board members have gone through the conflict of interest and background screening process. Now it is time for the volunteers. I have mailed out documents along with an explanatory letter to all volunteers who need to take part in this process. If you have any questions feel free to call the center. These forms need to be turned in to the center by February 14. The deadline to have them complete is February 28. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and understanding. We could not do our job without the volunteers.
February will bring our annual sweetheart dinner. We look forward to seeing you all join us on February 12. The menu for the day is chicken cordon bleu, baby baker potatoes, seven layer salad, garlic breadstick, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Bring your sweetheart for a wonderful meal surrounded by friends. All ages are welcome. On Valentine’s Day we will be serving “hearty” chili and we will be sending out Valentines to our home delivery clients. Come join us!
Bingo will start up again in March. This will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month starting at 10:00 a.m. If you wish to donate to the prizes that our players get to choose from, you may drop off anytime Monday through Friday at the center by 1:00 p.m. Suggestions for prizes include household items such as towels and dish cloths, word search books, home décor, hygiene products, etc. You may also make monetary donations to the Rock Port Senior Center for this activity. We appreciate all donations.
If you are looking for summer volunteer opportunities, please reach out. We lose a few of our volunteer delivery drivers after school gets out for the summer and will be looking for a couple of people to fill in temporarily. Our clients enjoy seeing all the volunteers that help the center out!
As always, we appreciate all of our volunteers and those who donate to the center. We are always looking for volunteers to help deliver to our homebound clients. An added bonus is that volunteer hours are reimbursed by the state to the center, which helps feed the senior citizens in Rock Port. Not only are you taking a hot meal to someone who may not otherwise get one that day, you are also helping fund that meal. If you are interested in volunteering reach out to Maria at the center for more information. Each volunteer receives one free meal each time they volunteer. Call the kitchen at 660-744-5812 if you will be taking a meal.
