• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Wild Frontier,” “Judge Steps Out,” “The Big Steal,” and “Neptune’s Daughter.”
• The Snowden Lumber Co. is making a large improvement to the building. The large vault is being torn out and the business office is being converted into one large room. A bookkeeping room will be built into one corner of the office.
• St. Joseph artist Harrison Hartley spoke at a Rock Port Rotarians and Rotaryanns dinner party held at the Ritz Wednesday evening. Mr. Hartley is well-known throughout the midwest and detailed some of his methods for securing materials, such as painting a portrait of a lumberman’s daughter in exchange for securing materials for his studio.
• An open invitation is issued to friends of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gebhards to attend an open house at their home Sunday afternoon, February 19, in observance of their 55th wedding anniversary. Mr. Gebhards is 80 and Mrs. Gebhards will turn 73 in June. He is a native of this county and she was born in Germany and came to the United States when she was four years old.

• Mrs. William M. Sly, Fairfax, was awarded the grand prize in a recent drawing at Einbenders in St. Joseph. The drawing, held in celebration of their 55 years in the fashion business, was a grand prize of a seven-day Caribbean cruise for two.
• The 1974-75 Rock Port High School Basketball Homecoming King and Queen were Willie Holmes and Maralee Sweeton.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Mechanic” with Charles Bronson, “Macon County Line,” and “For Pete’s Sake.”
• Atchison County weather took a nosedive Sunday night when the temperature dropped to minus 10 degrees fahrenheit. The temperature had dropped to 2 degrees on Wednesday night, climbed a little before falling back to 2 on Saturday night, and then continued downward.
• Operation Green Jeans brought in over $17,000 from generous citizens of Atchison County to help defray medical costs incurred by Ron McMahon, 20, of Rock Port.
• A fine art display of over 100 pieces of hand painted china is being shown by Mrs. R.C. Martin at the Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio. Mrs. Martin is a former Rock Port R-II school teacher.
• Earle E. Sims, president of the Fairfax Hospital Board of Trustees, expressed thanks to the 138 people who donated $9,276.50 to make the hospital’s Christmas Appeal so successful.

• The Rock Port High School wrestlers did well at Districts and all qualified for Sectionals.
• Harold and Mary Zach of Rock Port will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on February 9. The couple was married on that day in 1935 at Sidney, Iowa.
• The Optimist Club members have purchased new fencing for the ballfield at the south end of the park.
• Jordan Zane Holmes has been selected for the 2000 All-American Subjunior Trapshooting Team by the American Trapshooting Association. Zane is the son of Jeff Holmes of Watson and Marvetta Leseberg of Kearney, Missouri.
• McDonald’s in Rock Port announced that Tammy Silkett was named the 1999 Employee of the Year.
