March 9, 1950
• John Walker and family announced the reopening of the Imperial Service Station at Ninth Street and Highway 4 in Tarkio. They have bought the Bigley residential property at 4th and Walnut streets where they will make their home.
• The Tarkio grade school music department has been improved with gifts from the Tarkio Music Club. Each grade has received a portable record player and extension cords, plugs, and a record holder. A piano was given to the grade school by Mr. and Mrs. James F. Prather and Harold Davison donated his services for necessary repairs.
• There was a record turnout Monday for John Deere Day, sponsored by the Atchison County Implement Company. The spring-like weather attracted a crowd of 800.
• Miss Rosalie Voltmer and Mrs. Ted Nixon began work Monday as typists for Gorman and Mitchell at the courthouse in Rock Port.
• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “The Great Gatsby” with Allan Ladd and Betty Field.
March 13, 1975
• A large number of people attended the 9th Annual Community Betterment Awards’ Banquet Tuesday night. Dean Rolofson was named the Employee of the Year. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Postlewait were named Farm Family of the Year and Dean Meek was honored as Citizen of the Year.
• Tarkio College women’s basketball team captured its first Missouri Association for Intercollegiate Athletics Championship for women’s small colleges this past weekend. The Lady Owls, by winning three ball games over a two-day period, gained the state’s small college championship in only its second year of varsity competition and ended the season with a 20-1 record.
• A book tea was held at Thompson Library Learning Center last Tuesday, February 25. Those attending brought books for the library. Librarian Jeanette Huston gave the guests a tour of the reading room and facilities and Gavin Doughty, Jr. demonstrated how to use the new computer system now in operation.
• Westboro Boy Scout Troop 72 is sponsoring a country music show Saturday, March 15, at the Westboro School Gymnasium. The entertainment will be the Plummer Family of Branson, Missouri, well-known country western performers who have performed on radio and television and have made recordings in Nashville.

• Jo and Bruce Lang welcomed a new baby girl on Leap Day. Tuesday, February 29, Melissa Jo Anne Lang was born at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21 inches long. She has two older brothers, Kevin and John.
• Todd Graves, Platte County, Missouri, Prosecuting Attorney, filed for the office of Missouri State Treasurer on Tuesday, February 29. Todd is a graduate of Tarkio High School.
• Tarkio Elementary 4th and 5th graders celebrated National Pig Day Wednesday, March 1. The kids played pin the tail on the pig, painted pig shirts, and enjoyed other pig-related activities.
