Helen Jo Stevens, the daughter of Joseph Wheeler and Mamie Edith (Hudnall) Stevens, was born April 4, 1937, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended Golden View Country School, west of Rock Port, Missouri, and Rock Port High School, graduating in 1955. Jo then attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, for two years.

In 1958, Jo began employment with Rock Port Municipal Utilities, where she remained for 40 years, retiring in 2002 as Utility Clerk. She then served on the Rock Port Board of Aldermen from 2002-2007 and served as Mayor of Rock Port from 2007-2009. She also owned and operated the Stevens family farm.

Jo enjoyed bowling and served as the director of the State Bowling Association for four years. In 2018, Jo was awarded a plaque for attending the women’s state bowling tournament for 55 years and later that year in Reno, Nevada, she received a 20-year attendance plaque at the women’s national tournament. She also loved handicapping the horse races and could be seen at Horseman’s Park in Omaha, Nebraska, most Saturdays. Jo was a faithful fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jo was baptized and was a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church. She passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 87.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include numerous cousins, most living in Winslow, Arizona, or Cameron, Missouri; and dear friends, Julie Burke, Nancy Daugherty, and Julie Slaby.

Graveside service and interment were held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, March 4, at River Rock Lanes, Rock Port.
