On Sunday, March 9, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Tarkio Police Department was dispatched to the Gas Spot in Tarkio regarding a male subject who had brandished a firearm at a Gas Stop employee, Devin Guajardo, and stolen his gray 2016 Cadillac passenger car. The suspect fled the property, driving the vehicle west bound on U.S. Highway 136 and across the Missouri River Bridge into Nebraska. Local bystanders gave chase and followed the stolen Cadillac.
Through the assistance of On-Star, the car was tracked via the security system and located just shy of Johnson, Nebraska, by a Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and a pursuit ensued. When the Cadillac was stopped in a controlled stop by On-Star on Highway 105, the suspect failed to exit the car on command. Upon a safe approach by the Nebraska State Patrol, the suspect, David Armstrong, 34, of Tarkio, was found inside the vehicle, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Agencies assisting in the investigation were the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
