Two women were injured in a one-vehicle accident at the Hwy. 59 and Missouri Route 46 intersection one mile south of Fairfax, Missouri, at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025. The crash occurred as a 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe was northbound on U.S. Hwy. 59 and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off of the east side of the roadway and the front bumper struck a road sign. The Santa Fe then struck an embankment and became airborne. The passenger side of the Santa Fe struck the ground before the vehicle finally came to rest on its wheels, facing southeast off of the east side of the roadway.
The driver, a 29-year-old female from Fairfax, Missouri, and a passenger, a 57-year-old woman from Falls City, Nebraska, were both not wearing their seat belts. The driver suffered moderate injuries and the passenger suffered serious injuries and both were transported to Community Hospital-Fairfax by Atchison-Holt ambulances. The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe was totaled and towed from the scene by Double M Towing of Rock Port. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. K.L. Ebersold, who was assisted by Trooper R.A. Matthews, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District.
