• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Riders In The Sky,” “Barbary Pirates,” “Jolson Sings Again” with Larry Parks and Barbara Hale, and “The Window.”
• Clyde Shineflew, a local youth who has been given due credit for the apprehension of two alleged cattle thieves last January when he became suspicious of them at the service station where he was employed, has been given a $400 reward offered by Clay County Protective Association for apprehension of the men. The Atchison-Holt Protective Association presented him with $100, as well as the man who owned the truckload of cattle they had in their possession.
• Carl Holden will shortly put into operation a serve-yourself laundry in one of the West buildings. It will be equipped with washing machines, which will be rented to the public.
March 20, 1975
• Kay’s Sewing & Fabric Shop opened its doors March 20. Owned and operated by Linda Kay Steele, the new business is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. six days a week at 412 S. Main in Rock Port.
• Dee Vee Wood, who will be a 1975 graduate of Rock Port High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orin Wood of Rock Port, has enlisted in the U.S. Navy’s 180-day delay program. She will depart for training at Orlando Naval Recruit Training Center in Florida in June.
• The Atchison County Cooperative Association is hosting the grand opening of their new farm supply store Monday and Tuesday, March 24 and 25. Steve Shineman is the general manager of the store and Mrs. Dennis Christian is the clerk.
• The Rock Port R-II Schools missed one more day of school due to the snow and ice covered roads on March 12. This makes a total of 2 1/2 days missed this year due to weather. Due to only 1 1/2 snow days being allowed this year, the additional day missed will be made up on Saturday, May 24.
• Visitors at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jochim, Sr., near Watson were Mrs. Jo Tarp, Rock Port teacher, and the members of her class on houseplanning and decorating.
• There were 21 boys who registered this year as Boy Scouts of Troop 59. These boys will carry on the Troop 59 Charter, which has been in existence for over 40 years. Ronald Bennington is the new Institutional Representative for the Scout’s new sponsor, the Optimist Club.

• Bill Farmer and W.C. Farmer with the Atchison County Mail had lunch with Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan at the Governor’s Mansion in Jefferson City during the Associated Press and Missouri Press Day.
• Michael J. Burg, a 1982 Rock Port High School graduate, will co-star opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt in the ABC-TV Movie-of-the-Week “The Audrey Hepburn Story.” Michael plays Truman Capote, who wrote “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
• Rock Port Elementary welcomed a new secretary on March 9 when Becky Alitz began her duties. Along with her many secretarial duties, she will also be taking numbers at the lunch line.
• Rock Port second graders have joined The Great Mail Race, where they made a questionnaire and sent it to a second grade class in every state. They are now waiting to hear from those classes.
