• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Quick On The Trigger,” “Blondie’s Big Deal,” “One More, My Darling” with Robert Montgomery and Ann Blyth, and “My Dream Is Yours” with Jack Carson, Doris Day, and Eve Arden.

• Pictures showing 214 dead coyotes hanging together by their hind legs at the Ralph Seymour farm, one mile north of Fairfax, have appeared in daily newspapers all over the nation. These coyotes were all captured and killed this past winter in northwest Missouri, southeast Nebraska, and northeast Kansas.

• Eighty children were entertained by the Baptist Church after school Friday of last week with a picnic, wiener roast, and an Easter egg hunt in the park. Games were played and the kiddies joined in singing.

• Clem McSpadden of Nowata, Oklahoma, a nephew of the late Will Rogers, will be the announcer for the 4-State Roundup outside Fairfax July 20-23. McSpadden’s mother is a sister of the late rodeo hand, ranchman, and nationally known humorist.

• Max B. Benne of Fairfax was notified Saturday that he had passed the state bar exam. He will go to Jefferson City next week to get his license and take the oath. He will then open an office in Fairfax for the practice of his profession.

• After more than a year of construction, the $200,000 modern water plant in Fairfax was put into service Thursday of last week. Considered highly efficient and masterfully engineered for a community of this size, the facility is capable of treating and pumping at a rate of 200 gallons a minute.

• Ed Davis placed fifth in the Midwest Five-State Pool Contest in Omaha, Nebraska, over the weekend, winning $400. Bruce VanGundy and Phil Cottle each received a $50 prize.

• A $5,969,567 contract for the remaining road construction to be done on Interstate 29 in Atchison County has been awarded by the Missouri State Highway Commission. The contract calls for two 24-foot concrete pavements and signing of approximately 11 1/2 miles running from U.S. Route 136 at Rock Port south to the Holt County line. Awarding of the project means that all of the Interstate work scheduled for Atchison County is now either complete or under contract.

• The Sweet Adelines quartet appeared at the Tuesday luncheon meeting of the Fairfax Kiwanis Club and gave a short preview of what could be experienced at the annual show to be staged in Rock Port Friday evening. The guests were Geneva Deatz, Marge Vogler, Cathy Carter, and Kathy Herron.

• The third annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner held Saturday, April 1, at the Fairfax High School Gym was a huge success. Four hundred guests attended the event, sponsored by the Development Council of Community Hospital Association.

• Scott Clark, a third grade student at Fairfax R-3, traveled to St. Joseph, Missouri, Saturday, April 8, to compete in the Area Special Olympics. Scott earned a gold medal in the standing broad jump, a silver medal in the tennis ball throw, and a bronze medal in the 50 meter dash.

• Fairfax Elementary first, second, and third grade students participated in the Jump Rope for Heart and the Fairfax fourth, fifth, and sixth graders participated in the Hoops for Heart contest April 7, sponsored by the American Heart Association.
