• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Heiress” with Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift, and “South of St. Louis” with Joel McCrea, Alexis Smith, and Zacchary Scott.
• The American Legion is serving a fried chicken dinner with all the fixings – mashed potatoes, gravy, creamed peas, perfection salad, pie, hot bicuits, and coffee – for $1.25 per plate Tuesday, April 18, at the Memorial Building. Following the dinner will be the performance by the Drake University concert band.
• Members of the Rock Port Construction Co. are very much gratified at the success of the “open house” held at the new residence which the company opened to the public last weekend. Visitors numbered 310. Several of the rooms were furnished by the Clifton Furniture Co.
• Lee Pemberton & Sons’ Hy-Klas Food Stores in Rock Port are advertising: Hy-Klas fresh creamery butter wrapped in quarters, 59¢; dressed and drawn frying chickens, 59¢ per pound; cigarettes, 15¢ per package and $1.47 per carton.

• Cox’s Conglomerations: “My how times have changed. George Washington had wooden teeth and an ivory toothpick and now we have ivory teeth and wooden toothpicks.” “In many homes today, the TV set is better adjusted than the children.”
• Rock Port Explorer Post 444 took a four-day ski trip to Winter Park, Colorado. There were 22 students and six sponsors who enjoyed skiing, tubing, snow mobiling, and sightseeing.
• Rock Port’s newest business, a branch of the Safety Federal Savings and Loan of Kansas City, opened for business this week under the management of Jim Allen, who is assisted by Mrs. Paul Buck. The business is located in the former Dr. Emmett Settle building on Main Street.
• Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hughes of Fairfax are the proud parents of twin girls, Lori and Lisa, born April 5 at the Fairfax Hospital. Lori was born at 5:07 a.m. and weighed six pounds and four ounces and Lisa was born at 5:16 a.m. and weighed five pounds and 13 ounces.

• Greg and Betty Chamberlain will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary April 12. They were married that day in 1950 at the Whidbey Island, Washington, Naval Air Station, where Greg was serving in the Navy. Two weeks later, they returned to Rock Port and have spent their married years in family businesses, which now involves the ownership and management of funeral homes in Rock Port, Oregon, and Mound City.
• Linda and Russell Herron have moved their specialty shop to a new location at 313 South Main. Country Creation is now occupying the former Amthor Barber Shop building. Most of the items they sell are made right there in the shop.
• Domino’s Pizza will be in town this weekend. There is a coupon in this week’s paper for customers to use. For every coupon turned in, Domino’s will donate 50 cents to the Playground Fund.
