• More than 200 people attended the open meeting of the Nishnabotna group of Alcoholics Anonymous Sunday at the Tarkio Community Building. This is the second anniversary of sobriety for members of the Nishnabotna group.
• Funeral services for John C. Currie, 87, were held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. He was born August 5, 1862, on Heron Island, New Brunswick, Canada. At age 10, he came to the United States with his parents and they settled on what is now known as the James Cook farm southeast of Tarkio, seven years before the city of Tarkio was founded.
• C.W. Buster has opened a new bulk plant for gasoline, fuel oil, and kerosene in Tarkio. The plant is located directly across the street west from the Community Building and two blocks south of Highway 4 on Third Street.
April 24, 1975
• Dr. Ashraf A. Ghorbal, Egyptian Ambassador to the United States, will deliver the address at the Tarkio College Commencement Sunday, May 11, in Schechter Auditorium.
• Specials at Hy-Vee in Tarkio include: a family pack of frying chickens, 49¢; 8 pack of 16 ounce bottles of Pepsi Cola, 99¢ plus deposit; Hy-Vee chunky 5 pound bag of dog food, 79¢; Velveeta cheese, 2 pound box for $1.69; and Sunkist oranges, 5 pounds for $1.
• Mrs. Joan Stanley-Baker, art historian and lecturer on Chinese and Japanese art history, will give a slide presentation on Tuesday, April 29, in Leitch Chapel. The slides deal with the Chinese Art Exhibit on display at the Nelson Art Gallery in Kansas City. The exhibit is made up of 385 ancient treasures excavated in the People’s Republic of China since 1949.
• The mercury reached a high of 87 degrees on the 17th, which was followed by a frosty low of 28 on the 20th.

• Ask Elsie Fae column: “The Tarkio Methodists are putting out a cookbook and asked me if I had any favorite recipes. Of course I do. I like the cheese-lover’s pizza at Pizza Hut, the Reuben sandwich at Tenth Street, the loungeburger at the Walnut Inn, the cheeseburger at the Daybreak Cafe, the fried chicken at Dave’s, and the banana split dessert at the Rock Port Diner.”
• Twenty-three bicycle riders braved the cold to participate in the Tarkio and Westboro Lions Clubs’ annual Bike-A-Thon. Winning first place and the bike in the girls’ division was Carmen Herrick of Westboro. Cody Johnson of Westboro won the first place prize of a bicycle in the boys’ division.
• Several Tarkio FFA members recently received awards at the 72nd annual Missouri State FFA Convention. Paul Klute received the second place Oil Crop Placement Proficiency Award. Adam Rolf received the second place Specialty Crop Proficiency Award. Ben Greeley received the second place Swine Placement Proficiency Award. The Tarkio FFA Chapter as a whole was one of 38 chapters out of the state’s 275 to receive the State Gold Emblem Chapter Activity Award.
