The East Atchison Wolves had a busy week on the baseball field last week, playing four games in five days.
The Wolves began the run with a 6-2 conference win against Platte Valley on Monday, April 7, in Tarkio. This was the first Wolves’ win over Platte Valley since May of 2019. Freshman Axyl Slemp pitched four strong innings giving up five hits and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking none. Senior Alex Erickson pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and walking one. Tate Johnson singled down the right field line, which helped the Wolves tie the game at two in the top of the third. They then took the lead 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Alex Erickson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and never looked back. Owen DeRosier, Johnson, Luke Morey, and Gabe Harms each collected one hit for the Wolves.
The Wolves then faced Albany at home on Tuesday, April 8. Albany was up 8-3 after three innings, but the Wolves battled back and had the tying run at third base in the final inning, ultimately unable to score and ending the game 8-9. Senior Alex Erickson broke the East Atchison career singles record during the game. For the third game of the week, the Wolves traveled to Rock Port to face off with the Blue Jays. Individual EA stats follow: Owen DeRosier – 1 strikeout; Axyl Slemp – 1 strikeout; Tate Johnson – pitched 1.0 inning allowing 5 hits, 8 runs (six earned), and 1 walk; and Luke Morey – pitched 1.0 inning allowing 5 hits, 7 runs (7 earned), and 3 walks. The Wolves suffered a 0-15 loss at the end of the 3rd inning.
The last game of the week was played Friday, April 11, at King City. Game stats had not been made available as of press time.
