The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, April 10, 2025. Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curtis Livengood, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, North District Commissioner Jim Quimby, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.
Presiding Commissioner Livengood called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.
Monthly department reports were reviewed and approved by the Commission.
Additions and abatements to the tax books were reviewed and approved as follows:
March 2025: Personal Property – Additions to the tax books: 2024, $9,202.52; 2023, $5,238.12; 2022, $636.51. Abatements to the tax books: 2024, $601.58. There were no additions or abatements to the March 2025 tax books for real estate or ag rock.
The commission reviewed an estimate from Perry Plumbing to replace a sewer line and approved moving forward with the needed repairs.
Richard Oswald and Tonya Oswald Maher met with the commission to sign donation letters and waiver of appraisals for Parcel #3 and Parcel #4 for BRO-R003(025), 250th Street Bridge over Tarkio Creek. All documents were signed and notarized and Great River Engineering will have them recorded. The commission thanked them for their willingness to donate ground for the bridge replacement.
Gary McFee with Howe Construction met with the commission and Road and Bridge Supervisor Kenny Wallace. He was passing through and wanted to meet Supervisor Wallace and express their interest in working with the county on future bridge projects.
Joe Makin, field representative at Josh Hawley’s office, was in to introduce himself and discuss any concerns the commissioners have that they would like to take back to Senator Hawley.
Clerk Taylor had put together a preliminary budget showing the cost of adding a Student Resource Officer to the county. The commission continues to review the numbers and will meet with Sheriff Riley for continued discussions.
