• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Tarzan’s Magic Fountain,” “Red Hot and Blue” with Betty Hutton and Victor Mature, and “Walls of Jericho” with Cornel Wilde and Linda Darnell. A special feature will play Friday and Saturday. “Girls in White” is a short story about the nursing profession. The management of the theatre invites the registered nurses and nurses aides of the community to the theatre Friday evening.

• Edgar Stewart has moved a large number of his bee colonies to Trenton, Texas, and will establish headquarters for his apiary in that town. E.W. Stewart of Fairfax has leased the Routh-Southerland corner building on Hamilton Street and has moved in hundreds of colonies for bees which he will place on farms in Trenton. Mr. Stewart is an experienced apiarist, having been in the business in Missouri since 1917. His honey is under the trade brand “Bee Sweet” and has a coast-to-coast distribution.

• Gifts for the graduate at Polly’s: pearl necklaces, 59¢ to $4; pearl earrings, $1; rhinestone necklace and bracelet set, $5; billfolds, $1 to $5; nylon hose, 98¢ to $1.59; and handkerchiefs, 25¢ and up.

• An open house will be held at the City of Fairfax water plant and treatment facility Sunday afternoon, May 4, to show the public how the new water system operates.

• Miss Alice Bradfield became the bride of Danny Joe Kemerling in a candlelight ceremony Saturday evening, April  12, at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. Rev. Jeffrey Carr officiated the double ring ceremony.

• The Fairfax Presbyterian Church set a new church time of 9:00 a.m. for Sunday worship service. Church school will begin at 10:00 a.m. The church has installed a sign on Highway 59 coming from the north. It was painted by Bob Smith. A new sign is being placed on the highway coming from the east by the ministerial alliance for all the churches.

• Specials at Hunter’s Hy-Klas Food Stores in Fairfax include: fresh Florida sweet corn, 8 ears for $1; king size 84-ounce Tide laundry detergent, $1.89; Morton’s glazed or jellied donuts, 79¢; Hy-Klas crinkle cut French fries, 2 pound bag for 69¢; and Hy-Klas popcorn yellow or white, 2 pound bag for 59¢.

• The William White Chapter of DAR recently held a 50th birthday luncheon at Sharp’s Grove Church. The newly elected state regent from Kansas City attended.

• Atchison County Health Department held blood pressure checks for residents of Fair Haven April 21 in the Fair Haven Community Room.

• The Fairfax Kiwanis Club met Tuesday, April 18, at the Community Room in Fairfax with 18 members present. The Fairfax Academic Team, including Katy Hunter, Kara Kemerling, Alex Hunter, Dustin Graves, and Jack Fries, were also present. The team challenged the Kiwanians to a brain bowl match and won.

• Jacob M. Salmond, son of Jim and Mary Salmond, Fairfax, received the Omar C. Bradley Award at the spring all service parade and awards ceremony held Saturday, April 15, at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Missouri. This award is presented to the ROTC Cadet who has exhibited the most outstanding leadership to his unit.
