• Howard Bunton, who came to Rock Port some four years ago to enter business as operator of the Rock Port Market, is branching out in business. He has purchased from John C. Graf the latter’s service station on South Main street and took over May 1st. Bunton takes over all operations of the Graf business except the bottle gas department, which belongs to Ray Townsend. Glenn Graham, who has been operating the gasoline, car-washing and servicing department under the name of the Rock Port Service Station, will continue in that capacity.
• Thirty-six boys and girls are graduating from Rock Port High School this spring. The baccalaureate program will be held May 7 at the Memorial Building, with Rev. Wm. E. Schleiffarth, pastor of the Christian Church, offering the sermon. Commencement exercises will be Thursday evening, May 11, at the Memorial Building.
• J. C. Penney, founder of the nationwide chain of J. C. Penney stores, will deliver the commencement address at the Watson High School on Thursday, May 11.
• Holden Appliance Co., Rock Port, advertised specials on wringer washers: the Maytag Master for $179.95, the Maytag Commander for $144.95, and the Maytag Chieftain for $124.95.
• Miss Betty Ramona Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, and Gregory Chamberlain, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Chamberlain, were married April 12 at Whidbey Island, Washington.

• It may look like it, but that’s no barn on Interstate 29 at the Rock Port exchange. When completed, Trail’s End will feature a service station, mini grocery store, liquor store, coffee shop, restaurant and bar, according to Harold Melvin, owner of Hippo Melvin Oil Co.
• The Rock Port Blue Jay boys’ track team took first place in class S. in the Indian Relays in St. Joseph. First place finishes included: Barry Minter, 120 high hurdles (15.8) and 180 low hurdles (21.5); Reed Martin, 440 yard dash (54.7) and long jump (19’2”); Randy Alley, 2-mile run (11:02); and the 2-mile relay (9:05.3).
• Robert Wolf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wolf, Rock Port, is a member of the Co-Operative Educational (COE) program. A senior this year, Robert is employed at Conley Bennington Chevrolet.
• Simon Gift Shop advertised a 20 cup Party Perk (in Mandarin Red, Harvest Gold, or Lime Green) for $14.75, and a bake ’n broiler pan for $6.95.
• Sonora Chapter had its official visit from the 6th District Grand Matron, Ellen Wyman, of the 8th District Order of Eastern Star of Missouri. Visiting chapters were Maitland, Tarkio, and Rock Port.

• The annual “Mind Your Own Business” contest final, sponsored by Access 2000, was held April 18 in Maryville, Missouri. Rock Port sixth grade students Veronica Allee, Lisa Kleinjan, Kory Paris, and Dalton Hudson were chosen as finalists.
• The Rock Port Market advertised boneless round steaks, $1.89 per pound; boneless skinless chicken breasts, $1.99 per pound; and fresh pork spareribs, $1.99 per pound.
