May 18, 1950

• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Horseman of Sierras” with Durango Kid and Smiley Burnette, “Adam’s Rib” with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, and “Chicago Deadline” with Alan Ladd.

• The attendance record at the Fairfax High School Alumni Banquet was broken at this year’s annual event with 317 attending last Friday night. Twenty-one members were added to the alumni.

• The Tarkio River bridge just west of town was not passable and was under repair last Tuesday and Wednesday. Trucks hauling gravel for the new highway carried loads too heavy and five stringers were broken on the south side of the bridge near the east end of the span.

• A well, to be used in emergencies, has been drilled on the Fairfax Community Hospital lot. The hole, about two feet across, is 72 feet deep. Water was found at about 40 feet and another stream at about 50. An electric pump with 400 gallons per hour capacity lowered the water level 26 inches after steady pumping for 10 hours and the water came back to the original level a short time after the pump was stopped.

• The Houston school house, which was sold at public auction Saturday by the Craig consolidated school district, was bought by Glenn Hawkins for $475. Other articles belonging to the school were purchased by the highest bidders.

May 22, 1975

• Mrs. Dick Davis harvested a bucket full of king-sized morel mushrooms near Mound City last week.

• Larry Roop has been employed as deputy city marshal by the City of Fairfax and began his duties Saturday, May 17.

• The Fairfax High School senior class took their trip to the Ozarks. Before they left, they visited class member Cole Slemons, who was injured and unable to take the trip. Most days were filled with swimming, skiing, paddle boating, and sightseeing.

• Bob Jones of the Fairfax Comfort Air has purchased the building just east of Fairfax on U.S. 59 from Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stewart of Texas. Jones plans to move his business operation to the building.

May 18 2000

• The north city ball park in Fairfax is being repaired by joint effort of the City of Fairfax, Kiwanis and Optimist clubs, and community members. The bridge that leads to the park is being repaired and new cement poured.

• Community Hospital Association, Fairfax, is proud to announce recent appointments in the Rehab Therapy Department to new graduates who have returned to their hometown of Fairfax. Ms. Pepe Cooper, RPT, completed her Master’s in Physical Therapy Degree and received her registered license in April. Lisa Harrington England, COTA/L of Tarkio, is returning to her birthplace as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

• Fairfax fifth and sixth grade students who earned 200 points in the Accelerated Reading Program were given a ride by Wake Up Spirits Limousine Service of Rock Port.

• Fairfax High School track team members Megan O’Riley and Jim Pinnell qualified for State Track. Megan placed second in the 1600 meter run and Jim placed first in the 300 meter hurdles.

• The Masonic Lodge of Fairfax installed a new flag pole on the school grounds at Fairfax R-3 Tuesday, May 9. The new flag pole was placed east of the school bridge.
