The Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 met on May 12, 2025, with six members and one guest present. Rummage sale hours were already reported, but some members had hours helping veterans and community service to report.

Chaplain Judy gave an opening prayer. Sergeant-at-Arms Michaella led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

First Vice President/ Recording Secretary Barb read the minutes of the April meeting which were approved. Treasurer Sheridan gave the financial report which was approved.

Barb reported on the membership status.

Sheridan reported on County Government Day. There were 60 students, three teachers, 16 officials, and 12 members from the local legions and auxiliaries present.

Purchasing a restaurant-sized stove for the kitchen was discussed, but more information is needed before a decision can be made.

The auxiliary will be providing a luncheon on Memorial Day, May 26, for the Legionnaires participating in the Memorial Day services at our cemeteries. The group will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, to prepare meat and cheese platters and set up tables and chairs. They will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26, to complete the preparations. If any member wants to contribute something to the meal, please contact Linda for more information.

Mark your calendars for Friday, May 23 – American Legion Family National Poppy Day. Auxiliary members will be distributing poppies throughout town on both Friday and Saturday. They will be at Hy-Vee, Dollar General, Casey’s, and the Gas Spot. Additionally, there will be a donation container at Farmers State Bank. It’s time to stand up and support our local veterans. Please donate and wear a poppy with pride. Your contribution matters!

The district meeting is on June 7, 2025, in Savannah. If you want to attend or need a ride, call Linda by May 27.

The Department Convention is July 10-13 in Cape Girardeau.

The Fourth District meeting will be held in September with Atchison County units serving as hosts. The date will be announced later.

With no further business to come before the meeting, Chaplain Judy offered a closing prayer. Linda adjourned the meeting.

The next meeting will be June 9, 2025. Officers will be elected and the charter will be draped in memory of members who have passed.
