• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Indian Agent” with Tim Holt and Nan Leslie, “You’re My Everything” with Dan Dailey and Anne Baxter, and “Holiday Inn” with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.

• Fire of undetermined origin caused damage estimated at $750 to the building and contents of Stoner Machine Shop shortly after seven o’clock Monday night.

• Two prisoners’ careful plan of breaking out of the Atchison County Jail in Rock Port were foiled by the sheriff’s wife. When Sheriff Joe Gaines got too close to one of the prisoners, they both were able to subdue him. One kept hold while the other ran upstairs telling Mrs. Gaines that the other prisoner and her husband were fighting, evidently expecting her to rush to the aid of her husband and he could then arm himself with the sheriff’s gun. However, Mrs. Gaines promptly picked up a 32 calibre revolver and marched the surprised prisoner downstairs into the bathroom and told him if he made a move she would fill him full of holes. She then went to the aid of her husband.

• At the Blue Bell Cafe, enjoy an air-conditioned Sunday dinner of fried chicken (including dessert) for $1. The Wide Awake Cafe is also advertising a Sunday chicken country-fried dinner with all the trimmings for $1. They also have delicious fountain and bottled drinks, coffee and ice cream.

• Fairfax R-III ended its 1974-75 school year with an awards assembly last Thursday, May 22. Medals were presented to the top six ranked seniors according to accumulated grade point: Jony Lawrence, Marilyn Jones, Reta McCartney, Sharon Swindler, Debbie Miller, and Krista Hunter. Students also received recognition for: perfect attendance, E and S honor rolls, student council officers, yearbook, science and math, FHA, Pep Club, library, history, Boys’ and Girls’ State participation, Society of Distinguished High School Students induction, certificates of recognition from the Missouri College School Relations Commission, music/band/color guard, typing, athletics, scholarships, I Dare You award, and Outstanding Teenagers of America.

• Mrs. Beulah Martin was guest of honor Thursday evening, May 22, at a family gathering at the Fair Haven community room in commemoration of her 80th birthday. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served and she received some lovely gifts.

• Mr. and Mrs. Dick Parshall of Burlington Junction are parents of a son, Dickie Lynne, Jr., born at Community Hospital, Fairfax, May 22, at 12:35 p.m. He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

• Seventeen seniors earned their high school diplomas at Fairfax R-3 Sunday, May 21. Tiffany Taylor was valedictorian and James Hunter was salutatorian.

• The Fairfax High School landscaping class landscaped the north entrance of the gymnasium.

• Megan O’Riley placed 7th in the state track meet running a personal best time of 5:48.86 in the 1600 meter run.

• Pearce’s building got a new coat of paint Wednesday, May 17.
