June 2, 1950
• David Walkup, seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Walkup of Tarkio, was brought to the Fairfax Community Hospital Friday after he fell from the loft of a barn and was found to be suffering a concussion.
• Nearly 300 youngsters are enrolled in the four vacation Bible Schools now in progress in Tarkio. There’s the Baptist and Assembly of God Church schools, Union Vacation Bible School, Methodist Bible School, and Presbyterian, Christian, and United Presbyterian Bible School.
• Fred Beck of Blanchard won the trophy in the shoot held at the Tarkio Gun Club. He carded the high overall score of 194 out of 200 and was awarded the Tarkio Gun Club trophy, the first to be awarded by the club.
• Frank Kratochvil has moved from Ceresco, Nebraska, to Tarkio where he has accepted a position as butcher at the Tarkio Locker Company. Mr. Kratochvil operated his own business in Nebraska.
• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Tension” with Audrey Totter and Richard Basehart, “Home in San Antone” with Roy Acufff and the Smoky Mountain Boys, “Four Faces West” with Joel McCrea, and “12 O’Clock High” with Gregory Peck.
June 5, 1975
• Tarkio College Mule Barn Theatre has announced that Ardis Coe of Tarkio will play the leading role of Mame Dennis – that whimsical belle of Prohibition years – in the rollicking, frolicking musical “Mame” coming to the Mule Barn June 18-29. Ardis was also in “Mame” in 1970, as well as “South Pacific” in 1967, “Sound of Music” in 1968, “Guys & Dolls” in 1969, “Oklahoma” in 1972, and “I Do, I Do” in 1973.
• Tennis classes will be offered for beginners and intermediate players at the Tarkio tennis courts. The classes are open to all ages and are $30 for 12 lessons. Mr. Bruce Gilbert will be the teacher.
• The Tarkio Community Garden Club held its 15th Standard Flower Show Thursday, May 22, at the Tarkio Community Building. The theme was “Country Charm.”

• ShopKo Stores, Inc. and P.M. Place Stores Company recently signed a letter of intent for ShopKo to acquire the Place Scores Company.
• Starting August 1, Westboro, Missouri, mailing addresses and zip codes will be issued to all residents living along the Iowa border who are currently directed by the United States Postal Service to use a Blanchard, Iowa, address. This out-of-state classification has resulted in problems including the receipt of tax notices from both states and the denial of in-state scholarships to college-aged students because they were incorrectly listed as Iowa residents.
• Suzanne Brought of Tarkio has taken over the position as high school secretary at Tarkio R-I. She started her duties February 29; however, the former secretary, Pat Peterson, did not officially retire until the end of the 1999-2000 school year. Mrs. Peterson worked at Tarkio R-I for 26 years.
• Zora Fast celebrated her 103rd birthday at Integrated Health Services in Tarkio on Wednesday, May 31.
• Judy and Stan Poppa of Tarkio are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary June 12. They were married on that day in 1960.
• Tarkio Postmaster Dave Wynn has retired from the United States Postal Service. He worked at the Tarkio Post Office since 1989.
