The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen held a regular meeting Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Tabitha Wintz, mayor, at 6:00 p.m. Also in attendance were: Kamron Woodring, Debra Wyatt, and Stephanie Stevens, aldermen; John Brown, Water Superintendent; and Christy Stevens, City Clerk.
The tentative agenda was approved.
The aldermen approved the minutes of the regular meeting April 16, 2025, and accounts payable.
Bill #2025-4 titled: “A resolution authorizing individuals of certain positions as authorized signers for banking purposes on accounts now registered or hereafter registered in the name of The City of Fairfax” was presented to the board. The aldermen voted unanimously to approve Bill #2025-4 and have Tabitha Wintz, Debra Wyatt, Christy Stevens, and Terry Miller as check signers for all accounts, including ACH payroll transactions. Bill 2025-4 was assigned Resolution #2025-1574.
New Business
Council members gave the city clerk a list of properties that need letters pertaining to junk in yards, tall grass and dangerous buildings. Christy will work on those letters and get them sent out soon.
Tabitha Wintz brought up an elected officials training that she thinks would be beneficial to the council members in June. She will register the members and plan on a Zoom conference next month.
She also brought up MOCAAT (Missouri Capital Asset Advantage Treasury) for the city to consider investing in. She recommended the other council members do some research on MOCAAT and see if it is something the city is interested in. She will also get in contact with Craig schools to ask some more questions about it.
Staff Reports
John Brown, Water superintendent, expressed concerns about the postal service lately. The city now offers email or text to receive water bills but some residents don’t have either of those and are not receiving their water bill postcard in the mail. Christy Stevens commented that anyone can call her to find out what their water bill is. Once she sends them out to the post office it is out of her hands on whether or not they get delivered on time.
John also reported that the contractors for the Highway 59 project will be coming through town soon. Once they are in town, cars will not be able to park on Main Street.
Christy asked the council if Kirk Kopper from Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments (NWMORCG) could come to the June meeting to present to the council what the NWMORCG can offer. She also let the council know that the water meters had to be insured in order to pay the invoice.
The aldermen voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel at 6:50 p.m. The regular session resumed at 7:20 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
The next meeting is Wednesday, June 18, at 6:00 p.m.
