• Two Rock Port Boy Scouts are fortunate enough to be included among the estimated 47,000 who will register for the National Jamboree of Boy Scouts at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Jimmie Pete Hedgpeth and Beaty Pemberton will be among the 66 representatives from the Pony Express Council.

• The dance recital given by the LaRene School of Dance under the direction of Mrs. Keith Boettner brought out a large crowd to the Memorial Building last Wednesday night. The program was highlighted by the exquisite costumes designed by Mrs. Boettner and Mrs. P.R. Burke.

• Miss Betty Curry of Rock Port and Miss Norma Morgan of Westboro have made the Honor Roll for the spring quarter at the Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre: “Sands of Iwo Jima” starring John Wayne and “Blue Lagoon.”

• The Rock Port Cardinals dropped a 10-to-2 game to Tarkio June 4.

• Atchison County citizens have purchased $16,162.00 in Series E bonds during the Independence Drive.

June 5, 1975

• Four new ambulances have been delivered to the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District. The modern, fully equipped vehicles, which qualify for all Federal regulations, cost $11,000 each.

• Rock Port’s municipal pool started off the season Sunday with about 100 swimmers braving a cool day and cool water.

• The Rock Port Alumni Banquet was held May 24 in the high school gymnasium with 271 persons served. Those present voted for a king and queen of the alumni alumni banquet for 1975. Steve Jones and Joni Barnhart were crowned king and queen. Don Sawyer was recognized for being the oldest man present and Mrs. Eunice Shadwick was recognized for being the oldest woman present. Both graduated in 1911.

  Greenley’s Market advertised the following specials: round steak, $1.29 per pound; rump roast, $1.49 per pound; Crisco oil, 24 oz. bottle, $1.09; Folger’s coffee, 1 lb. can, 79¢ (limit 1 with an $8 purchase); and ice cream, 1/2 gallon, 89¢.

• Atchison County received hail June 2 around 5:00 p.m. that left several farmers’ crops damaged It was reported that the hail was so heavy in some areas that it even drifted.

• Attendance was up from 160 to 225 at the 2000 Rock Port Alumni Banquet. Fitz Million was recognized as the oldest man to attend the banquet. Ester Wolf was the oldest lady to attend.

• Atchison County students named to the Dean’s List at the University of Missouri, Columbia, were: Ryan Griffin, Rebel Herron, Danielle Schmidlau, and Jennifer Umbarger, Rock Port; Heather Currie, Brian Heits, and Andrea Murphy, Tarkio; Ann Hurst, Katherine Hurst, Nicholas Nelson, and Nicole Vette, Westboro; and Patricia Heitman, Trudy Heitman, and Juliah Hunter, Fairfax.

• The Rock Port Elementary awards assembly was held May 19. Principal’s Art Gallery Award winners were Ransom Lair, Kari Beth Sierks, and Randy Evans.

• Captain Cort Andrews recently took command of Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion 101st Aviation Regiment, the “Paladins,” at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

• Citizens Bank & Trust held its annual style show May 25 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port. This year’s theme was “Thyme in a Bottle” and featured some of the many changes that have occurred in the past century. Approximately 155 ladies attended the event.
