June 23, 1950
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Susanna Pass” with Roy Rogers and Trigger and “Hit The Ice” with Abbott and Costello.
• One of the most complicated pieces of bookkeeping equipment that has ever come to Rock Port was installed the first of the week at Bank of Atchison County. It is known as a proof machine and carries 20 individual adding machines and a master adding machine that is almost human in the manner in which it disposes of the checks and other items run through it in the course of the day. The machine cost $4,000.
• Atchison County’s annual 4-H picnic was held at the Rock Port City Park last Sunday. Despite rain, more than 130 persons from 4-H and their families attended. Of the 16 4-H clubs in the county, 12 were represented at the picnic.
• One of those “once in a lifetime” things occurred at the city park Wednesday night when the Rock Port Cardinals beat the Tarkio Tarks in an IAMO league baseball game by a score of 4-1. Rock Port pitcher Alfred Salfrank struck out 16 men by pitching a no-hit game. The lone Tarkio score was an unearned run following a series of bobbles. This is the only time anyone could recall such a thing happening in the old home town.
June 19, 1975
• Dr. Jeffrey Powell opened his new optometry office June 12 in Rock Port at 118 South Main Street at the former Dr. R.L. Curfman office, more recently occupied by Dr. Gary Powell.
• The Rock Port R-II School District has purchased two lots on Rainbow Drive outside the city limits on the west side of the road across from the Pleasant View Nursing Home. Plans call for two houses to be built by the students in the next two years.
• The Rock Port swimming pool will celebrate its 19th anniversary of operation Friday with a dance in the concession stand area with the Sundowners playing. A swimathon will also be held.
• Rock Port R-II School District has purchased 1.89 acres of land for the construction of a maintenance building and school bus parking area north of US Hwy. 136 opposite of the Legion Building, now occupied by D & N Western. The land was purchased from Don Clark for $3,000.
• Controlling interest in the Citizens Bank of Atchison County has been purchased by Carl Kleppinger of Mexico, Missouri.
June 15, 2000
• Ray and Linda Trauernicht’s yard was chosen as the Yard of the Month by the Rock Port Garden Club. The yard includes a pond and garden, flowers, shrubs, and an out building that looks like it is ready for Alice in Wonderland to sit down to tea.
• Rock Port’s City Clerk and Court Administrator Maureen Moore has been awarded the prestigious designation of Certified Court Administrator from the Missouri Association of Court Administrators and the University of Missouri Columbia. Moore has been employed with the City of Rock Port since May of 1989.
• The First Lutheran Church of Rock Port has begun the process of fire damage clean-up at the property they acquired on Market Street. This property is being restored to be used by the church.
• The Blue Jay Bowl held a fundraiser to raise money for the playground equipment fund at Rock Port R-II. The total amount donated was $359.60.
• Duane and Lillian (Wessler) Thiesfeld of Rock Port will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Wednesday, June 21. They were married on that date in 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri, and have lived in the Rock Port area most of those 50 years.
