Rock Port’s Ella Meyerkorth competed in the Nike Outdoor Nationals held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, June 19-22. Ella participated in the Championship Level Heptathlon, finishing in 12th place out of 17 competitors.
The heptathlon consists of seven events: the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, 200 meter dash, javelin and the 800 meter run. The event was divided over two days, with the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and the 200 meter dash all on Thursday, June 19, and the remaining three events on the following day.
Ella finished 12th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds, earning 778 points. She tied for 13th in the high jump, earning 621 points, with a jump of 1.50 meters (4’11”). With a throw of 8.83 meters (28’11.75”), Ella placed 11th in the shot put, earning another 453 points. She rounded Thursday out with a 14th-place finish in the 200 meter dash, running it in 27.21 seconds and earning 694 points. At the end of day one, her total sat at 2,546 points and Ella was in 15th.
Ella started Friday off with the long jump. She tied for ninth with a leap of 5.12 meters (16’9.75”) and earned 592 points. She won the javelin throw in the heptathlon and earned 614 points with a toss of 37.24 meters (122’2”). Ella finished off the heptathlon with a 800 meter run of 2:34.17 seconds, earning 15th and 642 points.
Her day two total amounted to 1,848 points.
Ella’s performances Friday helped her climb to 12th place with a final total of 4,394 points.
Ella also placed 29th out of 50 competitors in the javelin throw on Saturday, June 21, with a throw of 31.84 meters (104’7”).
Ella, the daughter of Ryan and Becky Meyerkorth, Rock Port, Missouri, will be a senior at Rock Port High School this year. Ella helped the Rock Port Girls’ Track Team capture their second consecutive state title this May. She won the 300 meter hurdles, took second in the 100 meter hurdles, and earned fifth place in the javelin and high jump at the State Track Meet.
