• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Adventures of Robin Hood,” “Valley of Giants,” “Cinderella,” “Hellfire,” and “Sergeant York” with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan.
• This issue of the Atchison County Mail is No. 1 of its 73rd year, the paper having been established in 1878.
• The farmhouse northeast of Rock Port owned by Mr. and Mrs. Buck Greer burned to the ground last Saturday morning about 8 o’clock. The place is occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Wallace. Because of lack of telephone facilities, it was necessary that the alarm be sent to town from as far as the Ernest Stoner home on No. 275. Most of the household contents, except a washing machine, were saved.
• The Family of the Week is Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hunter and their three-year-old twin daughters, Lucinda and Sandra. The family lives five miles south of Rock Port where Mr. Hunter has lived throughout his life and farms some 300 acres of land. Mr. Hunter’s farming was interrupted by three and a half years in the army during WWII.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “W.W. And The Dixie Dancekings” with Burt Reynolds.
• Rock Port’s Police Department has received $4,888.35 in radio and other equipment through federal grants. Installed and working are two 110 watt Micor mobile radios, two monitor receivers with antenna adaptor cable, an electronic siren, and public address system.
• Germany-Ramstein AB, Germany, is the new assignment for Air Force Staff Sgt. Gary L. Jones, a Fairfax High School graduate. Sgt. Jones is an electronic communication and cryptographic equipment repair supervisor.
• Atchison County’s newest and most interesting business opened some of a variety of ventures last weekend at the Trail’s End complex at Interstate 29 at the junction of Hwy. 136. The gas service station opened Friday. A day later, the minimart opened. Other parts of the complex expected to open in August are a cocktail lounge, coffee shop, dining room, and dancing area.
• Yes, there is still one person who farms 70 acres with his team of horses. Ralph Knierim lives two miles west of Rock Port and has farmed since he got out of the service in 1945. He uses his horses, Spot, 10 years, and Queen, 12 years.

• A new arena steel cover spanning 70 feet x 90 feet was recently erected over the Atchison County fairgrounds arena. It cost $35,000. A number of activities have been planned to raise money to pay the costs of the project.
• Florence Bennington represented Pleasant View Nursing Home in the Ms. Missouri Nursing Home Pageant in St. Joseph June 9.
• The 20th annual 594 Golf Tournament was held June 26 at the Rock Port Golf and Country Club. “The Good Ole Boys” took on Missouri’s finest “Men in Blue.” There were 27 members on each side. “The Good Ole Boys” won by 11 strokes.
• Star Hill Prairie Coffee Shop will have its grand opening July 3. The shop will feature ice cream, sundaes, malts, home baked bread, cinnamon rolls, and other treats.
