If anyone has a copy of TARKIO: The First 100 Years that they would like to donate, please email mbarntg1@tarkio.net.
Tarkio: The First 100 years, 1880 to 1980 is available for viewing at the David Rankin Museum on the Tarkio Tech Campus.
In 1980, when the Xi Eta Nu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was asked to sponsor a centennial book, the members were apprehensive but proud to do it for Tarkio. The response and cooperation received in putting the book together was overwhelming. The book contains stories of the families living in Tarkio as well as a rich history of early Tarkio families and businesses. The Editing Committee, Sharon Phillips, Gail Roberts, Patty Rolofson, Betty Martin, Marion Brooks, Judi Nixon, Lana Davison, and Dale Espey, was responsible for counting the words, securing the stories and pictures and editing each article so that it stayed within the framework of the approximate 250 words that were allowed. The Business Committee, Patty Rolofson, Suzanne Abbott, Lana Davison, Nancy Mills, Suzanne Ramsel, Linda Lee, Twyla Jagger, Barbara Young, Marylyn Wilcox, Renea Prather, and Judy Seymour, was responsible for publicizing the book by securing names from church records and school alumni records. Eight hundred and fifty letters were mailed to people outside the Tarkio area. Local people were notified by letters and weekly newspaper articles.
Unfortunately, remaining copies of the book are difficult to find. On a recent visit to Tarkio and the David Rankin Museum, Marcy McNulty asked if copies of the book were available for sale. Members of the Mule Barn Guild Museum Committee would appreciate knowing if anyone is aware of any available copies of this book Tarkio: The First 100 years 1880-1980. Email the guild if you can help at mbarntg1@tarkio.net or visit the museum on the TTI campus during the week from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
