• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Hoedown” with Eddy Arnold, “Jiggs and Maggie In Court,” “Rachel and the Stranger” with Loretta Young and Robert Mitchum, “When Willie Comes Marching Home,” and “The Big Hangover” with Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor.
• Prof. and Mrs. Silas E. Summers and Mrs. C.L. McAdams attended the meeting of the Missouri Newswriters Association Saturday in St. Joseph and Mrs. McAdams was one of the correspondents interviewed briefly on the air. Among the speakers they heard were W.J. Morrissey, circulation manager of the St. Joseph News-Press and Gazette, Dick Jones, hunting and fishing editor of the News-Press who is a native of Tarkio, and Miss Maude Freeland, executive secretary of the Newswriters’ Association.
• Work resumed on the new Tarkio Truck and Tractor building at 6th and Main streets following a delay of five weeks pending fabrication of the steel to be used for the structure. Expectation of completion is October 16 if weather conditions are favorable.
• A beautiful modern exterior now graces Tarkio’s Rolofson Motor Company, which will open for business beginning tomorrow. Lyle Rolofson and Clarence Kirkendoll, Studebaker agents and owners of the Rolofson Motor Company, obtained the Atchison County agency for the Studebaker cars and trucks and will have several of these on display at their opening.
July 24, 1975
• Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Kemper will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary August 3, 1975. An open house will be held in their honor at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri.
• The Northwest Missouri Five County Bankers Association held its 5th annual golf day at the Tarkio Golf Course July 23. Around 40 golfers participated in the event and around 70 attended the dinner the following day.
• The Rev. and Mrs. Horton McDonald have accepted the pastorate of the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. Rev. McDonald, ordained in 1957, comes from Aubrey, Texas, where he pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma.
• Specials at Hy-Vee in Tarkio include: Kleenex facial tissues, 200 count box for 39¢; California sweet juicy peaches, 39¢ per pound; Banquet cream pies, 14 ounce package for 49¢; and chicken quarters, 69¢ per pound.

• The 80 foot tall smoke stack at the heat plant on the Tarkio Academy campus is being removed to make way for three short heat stacks and more efficient use of the heat plant. The smoke stack and heat plant building were constructed in 1944 by prisoners of war from the POW camp at Clarinda, Iowa.
• Westboro Yards of the Month for July are the Mrs. Kenneth Hopkins residence and the Maurice and Pat Martin residence.
• Ask Elsie Fae – Elsie made some “nice” remarks at Dr. Brent Hrabik’s farewell picnic held at the community building July 15: “Don’t annoy Dr. Hrabik. I did once and he put me on the treadmill and didn’t take me off until they had to call Code Blue. I went to him with a failing memory eight years ago and it’s worse now than it ever was.”
• Jim and Roxanne Long have moved to Tarkio from Auburn, Nebraska, in order to manage the KRSS radio station. The format of KRSS is that of Christian teaching, praise, and worship. Formerly KTRX, KRSS has been on the air since 1995.
• Reverend James Shrieves has come to Tarkio to take over the pulpit at the United Methodist Churches in Tarkio and Westboro. James and his wife, Rebecca, came from Milan, Missouri.
