Lora Lea (Gubser) Owen and her husband, Randy, will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame August 17 at the Iowa State Fair.
Lora Lea grew up in a 4-H family in Rock Port, Missouri. Her dad, Marlin (Sherry) Gubser, as well as her siblings, Patricia and Travis, were members in a tight-knit Northern Highlighters 4-H Club. Many of these members and leaders are close friends to this day. Lora Lea stated, “4-H was just part of us.”
Randy and Lora Lea were parents of two sons, Connor and Cameron. They were all active in the Washington P.E.P. 4-H Club in Fremont County, Iowa, and wanted to encourage young people to find life skills.
Cameron lost his life in an ATV accident on October 24, 2016. Their 4-H family stepped up to help in many ways. The Owens established a scholarship given in his name annually to a Fremont County 4-H member. This year’s Cameron Owen Enthusiasm Award will be presented this Saturday, July 19, at the Fremont County Fair.
