• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port:“The Far Frontier” with Roy Rogers, “Jamboree,” “Hellzapoppin,” and “Riding High.”
• Specials at the Rock Port Market include: Karo blue label dark syrup, rich in dextrose, 24 oz. bottle for 15¢; Carnation milk, 2 tall cans for 23¢; Ukelene Hawaiian pineapple, half slice No. 2 1/2 tin for 35¢; Sunshine crackers, 2 lbs. for 45¢; and Jack Sprat Tea, orange pekoe, 1/4 lb. package for 19¢.
• Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bray and daughter, Vera, left Thursday of last week for a long visit in England. They will sail from New York on the Queen Elizabeth to Plymouth in the southwest part of England. Mr. and Mrs. Bray came to the United States in 1922 and this is their first trip back to their native land.
• Late last week, a plane circled above Rock Port giving out “canned” music and announcements of the Fairfax rodeo. The unusual stunt, which caused a lot of neck-craning, was orchestrated by the rodeo sponsors as a more modern method of advertising instead of using the “caravan” which visits the surrounding territory by vehicles.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Towering Inferno” with Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, and Faye Dunaway.
• This week’s basketball camp at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville includes four seventh and eighth graders from Rock Port: Chris Chamberlain, Mike Wilczek, Mike Leisman, and Mark Leisman. There were 70 total participants.
• A referendum was held on the establishment of a soil and water conservation district in Atchison County July 15. The referendum passed by a vote of 113 for and 88 against (only a simple majority vote was needed). This will give Atchison County the services of an soil scientist, soil conservation engineer, biologist, and other services not currently available, all with no charge to the landowners.
• The Rock Port Cubs ran away with a 36 to 1 victory over Westboro July 12. Winning pitcher for Rock Port was Chris Chamberlain.

• The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) recently participated in an international marketing event in Chicago, Illinois, raising awareness about Northwest Missouri and encouraging businesses in attendance to expand here.
• The Rock Port Garden Club has selected Jack and Marge Wilson’s yard at 702 Bluff Street as Yard of the Month. With this hot weather, the couple has worked hard to keep the plants weeded and watered.
• Rock Port hosted its 4th of July celebration in the park. Lucky Clover’s pork chop bingo raised $4,250 for the 4-H club and the winner, Cecil Demott, won $250. The Red, White, and Blue team from Tarkio won the volleyball tournament. Alex Minter won the frog jumping contest with Tyler Makings placing 2nd and Tyler Young placing 3rd.
• Hallie Clodfelter, Amy Van Meter, and Nicole Evans were the guest speakers at the Rock Port Rotary Club meeting July 6th. The girls shared their Girl State experiences with the Rotarians. A total of 731 girls attended the 59th session in Warrensburg.
