Dena and Mike Wennihan have opened a new bar called The Grainery at 119 N. 3rd Street in Tarkio. This building has been the location of several bars over the years, but the Wennihans recently gutted it and renovated the inside to give it a fresh look.

Dena first considered this new project when she found it wasn’t locally owned anymore, but rather owned by a corporation based out of Iowa. Her first thoughts were that she had to get possession of it and give it back to the community. She and her husband, Mike, met the owners and that’s exactly the plan they went with.

The building needed serious work and after a facelift, her vision was complete. The Grainery is a non-smoking bar with a dedicated smoking area that is separate. There are two pool tables and various games including darts, and music. There will occasionally be karaoke, DJs, and Dena and Mike hope to bring in a couple of bands. Although The Grainery is not a restaurant, they will have pizza available, as well as chips, jerky, and candy bars. Adult beverages and some nonalcoholic beverages are available with a large variety of inventory.

The Grainery will be open Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Friday through Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Grainery at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2025. The public is invited to attend. Dena said, “We appreciate the support shown to us so far. Stop in and see us! There’s something for everyone here.”
