The Century Farm Program, co-sponsored by University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau, recognizes farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 consecutive years or more.

The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nephews and nieces, including through marriage or adoption.

The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 acres of the original land and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.

Three Century Farms were recognized at the Atchison County Fair as this year’s inductees into the Missouri Century Farm Club. They were:

• George William Greer Family Farm, Rock Port, Missouri. The original owner was George Greer. The property was purchased in 1879 and is 106 acres.

• Lone Pine Trust & Burke Farms, LLC, Rock Port, Missouri. The property, consisting of 106 acres, was originally owned by George W. Greer, the great-grandfather who purchased the land in 1880.

• Lawrence Family Farm, Fairfax, Missouri. Grandfather Clarence Ballou Lawrence was the original owner. The property was purchased in 1925 and has 87 acres.
