• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “O, My Darling Clementine,” “The Wyoming Bandit,” “Side Street,” “The Skipper Surprised His Wife,” “Bells of Coronado,” and “Joan of The Ozarks.”
• The mercury climbed no higher than 80 degrees during the past week of strange July weather, this maximum occurring on both Monday and Wednesday. A minimum of 54 degrees was recorded last Thursday, as well as Monday and Wednesday of this week.
• In a new cement block building at First and Walnut Streets in Tarkio, Mr and Mrs. Russell Howell have opened a service station, cafe, and grocery store.
• Dr. Curtis L. Nelson, Hatfield, Missouri, has been moving new equipment this week to a dental suite which is being prepared in the second story of the First National Bank building in Tarkio.

• The largest fish kill in northwest Missouri numbering 105,834 fish occurred July 29 on an eight mile stretch of the Tarkio River. The massive fish kill occurred when chemical laden water was flushed from a 1,000 gallon ammonia tank truck by an employee of a Tarkio ag company into the Middle Tarkio Creek and spread into Tarkio River at 9:00 a.m. The kill went undetected until it was discovered by an area resident in the afternoon, who then reported the find.
• A summons was issued to a Blanchard woman who allowed her 13-year-old son to drive a 1965 Ford, which sideswiped a 1968 Oldsmobile when the two vehicles met at the crest of a hill on a country road east of Westboro.
• Jack Caufield of Tarkio was honored for his 13 years of service to Heinold Hog Markets at the company’s 25th anniversary dinner in Valparaiso, Indiana, Saturday night. Caufield is the manager of the Heinold Hog Market in Tarkio and had previously worked for Heinold at Girard, Illinois.
• “Anything Goes,” a Cole Porter smash musical hit, opened at the Tarkio College Mule Barn Theatre on Wednesday, July 30. Mule Barn cast members include Anita Greene as Reno Sweeney, John Claasen as Billy Crocker, Rush Tully as Gangster Moonface, Marcee Smith as Hope Harcourt, Nancy Farrar as Bonnie Letour, Zack Zanolli as Sir Evelyn Oakleigh, and June Entwhistle as Mrs. Harcourt.

• The new portion of Birch Street in Tarkio is now complete. The street opened last week in conjunction with the new apartments which will be opening soon in Birch Circle, Ellsworth Addition.
• The first four buildings on the south side of Main Street between Third and Fourth streets in Tarkio were demolished last week.
• Congresswoman Pat Danner is delighted over the passage of the Marriage Penalty Tax Agreement. This legislation provides vital tax relief to every married couple in America, including the 132,300 married couples living in Missouri’s Sixth Congressional District. This will save married couples an average of $1,400 a year in federal income taxes.
• The St. John’s Luther League of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri, recently returned from a mission trip. The group went to Oaks, Kansas, to work on projects at the Oak Indian Mission. The group members put in many hours of painting, ripping off shingles, cleaning up shingle trash, loading trash into dumpsters, and some spring cleaning jobs.
