• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “The Wolf Hunters,” “Chinook The Wonder Dog,” “South Of Rio,” “Sky Dragon,” “The Daughter of Rosie O’Grady,” and
“All The King’s Men.”

• Atchison County 4-H activities this year start Friday, August 11, with camp on the Tarkio College campus. Assisting with the program will be Ray Wells, field agent for the Conservation Commission and a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

• Once again the local airport has proved useful in emergencies, especially when mother nature gets in the way of air travel. During a heavy rainstorm, Charles Benjamin, C.A.A. Communicator at the U.S. Airways Communications Station at Gould Peterson Memorial Airport in Tarkio, guided a plane to safely land when the pilot became lost while flying from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Albany, Missouri.

August 14, 1975

• A Mic-O-Say Pow Wow at Camp Geiger this weekend had a record attendance. Otoe, Robidoux, Ma-Has-Kay, and Kanza districts attended, with over 600 people in attendance. Tarkio’s Troop 88 has 28 Scouts who are members of the tribe of Mic-O-Say. Eighteen of those were in attendance.

• Tarkio Equipment Company is holding a “Boss Is Away Sale.” “This is your chance to save before Ernie returns from vacation and raises prices.” Some of the sales include: used JD 3020 tractor, $4,900; new JD 2030 tractor, $8,500; and 1969 used 13 foot platform IHC 403 cab combine, $9,000.

• Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Kemper celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri. The open house was attended by 300 friends and relatives. Helping to receive guests was Mrs. Pearle Kemper, who served as an attendant at the Kempers’ wedding 50 years ago.

• Specials at Torrey Pines Restaurant in Tarkio include: 4 piece chicken dinner, $2.80; 20 pieces of chicken, $8.70; shrimp dinner, $3.50; cheeseburger, 50¢; steak, 80¢; and roast beef, 90¢.

August 10, 2000

• On Saturday, August 5, Tarkio Golf Course Manager Wayne Davidson hit a hole-in-one on hole number six. He made the 175-yard shot with a four iron. The next day, Charles D. Pease of Shenandoah, Iowa, hit a hole-in-one on hole number eight. He made the approximate 140-yard shot with a seven wood.

• Ask Elsie Fae column: “As I was leaving Steve Volker’s reception Sunday, I met Brooks Hurst. He was sporting a pair of grey snakeskin boots. He said they had so many rattlesnakes on their farm that he made himself a pair of boots. Sure . . . and I’m growing wheat in my backyard and milling my own flour.”

• The Tarkio Community Garden Club has selected the August Yards of the Month winners: Cleo and Mary Lou Dukes, 912 N. 6th St.; Chris and Lorie Hall, 1109 Elm St.; Buck and Sherry Gearhart, 603 Maple Street; Ruth Blacketer, 112 College St.; Butch and Julie King, 806 Elm Street; Ronnie and Sharron Brown, 505 8th St.; and Kingdom Hall, 711 N. 6th Street.

• Jim and Genevieve Prather of Tarkio will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, August 17.
