August 11, 1950

• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Doolins of Oklahoma” with Randolph Scott and “So Proudly We Hail” with Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard, and Veronica Lake.

• Larry Eugene Wake, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wake of Fairfax, has been released from Fairfax Community Hospital. Larry was born May 28, three months premature, weighing approximately 2 1/2 pounds at birth. He now weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

• Francis Irvine suffered serious injuries Saturday afternoon when he fell some 12 to 15 feet from the roof of a building he was working on at the Carroll Schooler place northeast of Fairfax. Mr. Irvine, a carpenter, fell off the roof and landed on a cement ledge at the base of the building.

• Lester B. Smith of St. Joseph, Pony Express Council Chief Executive, will be the speaker at the dedication of the Fairfax Boy Scout cabin Monday evening, August 14.

August 14, 1975

• Brigadier General Everett L. True was recently assigned as the Air Force member, chairman’s staff group, office of the chairman, Joint Chief of Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Brigadier General True is a 1945 Fairfax High School graduate. Besides stateside, he has served in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines and made frequent combat resupply missions in Vietnam. Brigadier General True is enroute to Sacramento, California, where he will be assigned as the vice commander of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center at McClellan Air Force Base.

• The July 7th embargo on all swine coming into Missouri from Texas has been lifted as of July 24.

• Garey Smith has been employed to teach business and coach basketball in the Fairfax R-3 School District for the 1975-76 term.

August 10, 2000

• Memorial services for Delores “Dee” Valentine (Brandon) White of Fairfax will be held Sunday, August 13, at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church. Dee taught in a small country school northeast of Oregon, Missouri, taught students in piano and voice out of her home, wrote political columns for the Tarkio Avalanche and Fairfax Forum, was the Public Relations Director at Tarkio College, worked at KTRX in Tarkio, and was news director for a closed circuit cable television station in Tarkio.

• Classes at Fairfax R-3 will start August 21, 2000, at 8:15 a.m. New teachers, administrators, and staff members for the 2000-2001 school year include: Elementary Principal Pamela Barnett; first grade teacher Krista Sly; fifth grade teacher John Olson; K-12 art teacher Elaine Strickland; business education teacher Tiffanie Sly; band/elementary music teacher Sarah Garmer; and Spanish teacher Connie Crapson.

• Dr. James Hunter has been at the same family practice location in Fairfax for 20 years. Dr. Hunter continues his family practice of geriatrics, pediatrics, and obstetrics at the facility now known as the Fairfax Family Practice center and owned by the Community Hospital Association.

• The Fairfax High School varsity cheerleaders attended Universal Cheerleaders’ Association (UCA) cheer camp at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, July 11-14. The Fairfax cheerleaders, to include Jenea’ Kemerling, LeAnn Graves, Maria Pinzino, Katy Hunter, Tabitha Taylor, Courtney Sinkhorn, and Lacy Moore, came home with several awards.
