
Janice L. Pierce, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Faye E. (Fischer) Gubser, was born September 4, 1940, in Fairfax, Missouri. She attended Fairfax High School, graduating in 1958.
On March 14, 1959, Janice was united in marriage to Marion F. “Poodle” Pierce in a country church west of Fairfax. They became the parents of one daughter, Cheryl. Poodle passed away in 2013.
Janice was employed as the secretary for the president of Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri, and later for the superintendent of Fairfax High School, Fairfax. Janice also was employed as a bookkeeper for Standard Oil Fertilizer, Langdon, Missouri. She later retired and became a homemaker.
Janice was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church. She served in many capacities in the church and sang in the choir. Janice passed away Friday, August 1, 2025, at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, Missouri, at the age of 84.
Besides her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by siblings, Phyllis Fletchall, David Gubser, Maxine Porter, Ramona German, and George Gubser. Survivors include daughter, Cheryl (Craig) Martin, Tarkio; special granddaughter, Crystal Dooley, Maryville, Missouri; brother, Raymond (Jeanene) Gubser, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Marge Gubser, Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Glen Pierce, Moberly, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2025, at Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, conducted by Pastor Rick Sons. Interment will be at English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax. Open visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be directed to Fairfax Baptist Church.
