August 25, 1950
• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Sing Neighbor Sing,” “Bandit King of Texas,” “Kentucky Moonshine,” and “Young Man With A Horn.”
• Miss Dorothy Lu Rankin, who has for the past four years served in the South Sudan mission field, will be heard during the worship service at the United Presbyterian Church Sunday. Miss Rankin is the daughter of Mrs. Herman Eavey of Xenia, Ohio, and the late Henry Rankin, who died in 1920 while serving as a missionary in Egypt.
• Neighbors came to the aid of Don Kretchmer, who was severely injured in a tractor accident August 5. Using 12 tractors, the neighbors cut 100 acres of clover hay for Mr. Kretchmer last Thursday at the Jim Mather farm southeast of Tarkio. Two weeks ago, kind neighbors gathered to do the threshing.
• Five home games are scheduled for the Westboro High School football boys. Twenty-one players are out this year, according to new head coach Phil Carter. Coach Carter, a graduate of the 1950 class of Northwest Missouri State College, is a former resident of Tarkio. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carter of Craig, Missouri, operated the Red and White Store a number of years ago.
• Frank C. Peterson and James F. Prather, owners of Peterson-Prather Lime and Phosphate Company in Tarkio, have installed a new operating system for handling and unloading rock phosphate fertilizer from freight cars.
• Henry Hargus is the new lessee at the Imperial Service Station on the corner of Highway 4 and 9th Street in Tarkio. He assumed his work at the station Tuesday, replacing John Walker, who will go to California soon for shipyard employment.
August 28, 1975
• Tony Greer, Atchison County resident for 90 years, is celebrating his birthday Sunday, September 8. Mr. Greer was born at the Greer homeplace northeast of Rock Port on that date in 1885. He farmed north of Rock Port until 1938 and moved to Tarkio and has resided at 609 Park Street since 1941.
• The mercury reached a record high of 103 degrees on the first.
• The annual Mule Barn Museum Benefit Antique Sale and Flea Market will be held Saturday, September 6, at the Tarkio Community Building. The event started in 1969 and is sponsored by the Atchison County Historical Society. Thirty-five booths have been reserved by antique dealers from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Ohio. Proceeds from the booth rentals and the 25¢ admission will go to the museum for development.
• Hackett’s in Tarkio is holding its grand opening with door prizes to be handed out this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Some of the sales include: special ladies’ fall pant suits, $15.99; boys’ jeans, $3.99 and $4.75; and new fall ties, $3.50.

• Reverend Dick Brogden, Assemblies of God missionary to Africa, will be the featured guest speaker at the Tarkio Assembly of God Church Sunday, September 3.
• Michael Peregrine, Tarkio, has started a new service known as Shield-Star Mobile Glass Repair. Mr. Peregrine’s mobile business repairs rock chips in auto windshields and also offers steam cleaning and detailing for auto interiors.
• Westboro Yards of the Month for August are Loren and Phyllis Culver and Roger and Kris Jones.
