August 25, 1950
• The board of directors of the Atchison County Farm Bureau in Rock Port voted last week to take over the offices recently vacated by the Production and Marketing Association, located upstairs over the McElhiney store in Rock Port.
• If you want to see one of the prettiest sights in Rock Port, drive around past the W.W. Holliway dahlia garden just north of the Barney Broten home in Bischof’s Addition. The flowers are in full bloom at present. Every color imaginable is included in the showing of these extra large blooms.
• The American Legion now has a Voiture of the 40 & 8 Society in Rock Port. The No. 1402 organization has 23 charter members.
• Wm. Bickel has purchased from members of the Campbell family the residence property a block east of the courthouse, with the anticipation of razing the old house on the lot and erecting a modern home. This piece of property has been in the possession of the Campbells for many decades.
• E.H. Dierks has hired a new lumberyard manager. Hubert Souder comes from Arnold, Missouri, near St. Louis, where he was employed in a lumberyard. He has 15 years of experience.
• The fact that he keeps busy in farming 350 acres of land does not keep Orville Garst of Watson from engaging in other activities. He has served his district as president of the school board and is a member of the Watson Masonic Lodge. Orville and his wife and sons live a mile west of Watson, where they have been for the past 16 years.
• Rock Port Schools will open on Monday, September 4. The modern, first class school boasts a broad curriculum, modern equipment, modern organization, highly-trained faculty, veterans’ agriculture training, excellent school cafeteria, and modern state-approved buses.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Brimstone” with Rod Cameron and Walter Brennan, “Love Happy” with the Marx Brothers, “Prince of Peace,” and “Forbidden Jungle.”
• Enjoy the “Treat of the Week” at the Rock Port Fountain: a banana split for 35¢ – the real old-fashioned kind. Eat three by yourself and get a fourth one for free.
August 21, 1975
• Warehouses approved for storage of grain under loan to or owned by the government were announced. Area warehouses included are: R.C. Hackett, Fairfax Elevator Company, Fairfax; Stanton Grain Co., Phelps City; Feeders Grain Corporation, Tarkio; Watson Grain Company, Watson; and Stanton Grain Co., Watson.
• Ernie Ellison and Bob Fischer are in the process of erecting a service station just off Interstate 29 at the 136 junction against the bluffs in the northeast corner. They will be operating with five gas pumps and one diesel pump on a large concrete drive serving DX petroleum products.
• Mrs. Ernestine Gray is the new administrator at Pleasant View rest home. She and her husband, E.R. Gray, came to Rock Port from Eldon. Mrs. Gray was the administrator at the Harrisonville nursing home for a year.

• With the help of about 40 volunteers, the new elementary playground equipment was installed, just in time for school.
• Fern Fentiman had a pleasant surprise at Pleasant View Nursing Home on Monday, August 14. The ladies of 8/40 gave her a surprise party in honor of her 100th birthday.
• Tony and Rhonda Gayler of Rock Port, Missouri, announced the birth of their second son, Brett Michael, who was born on July 31. He weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces.
