• Homemakers will have no cause to worry about their sugar supplies for canning and household needs in the period ahead. Secretary of Agriculture Charles F. Brannan announced on August 4 that the Commodity Credit Corporation had concluded the purchase of 600,000 tons of Cuban sugar to add to U.S. stocks.
• The Rev. Charles A. Finch, pastor of the Fairfax Christian Church, resigned at the conclusion of the morning service Sunday.
• Rain and lots of it fell during the early growing season for corn and at times up until two weeks ago. Warm, dry weather now for about two weeks has done much toward maturing the corn. There appears to be developing one of the largest corn crops ever known in this section of the corn belt.
• Seven Fairfax people joined in the nine-plane air caravan which left the Tarkio airport Sunday at noon and flew to York, Nebraska, for a big air show. Those making the trip were Dr. Paul Musgrave, Miss Dorothy Eckles, Jim Steele, Bob Bowness, Gene Carson, Marlin Smith, and D.A. Fraser.

• The Fairfax community lost one of its oldest citizens last week with the passing of William T. Flanagan. He died at Community Hospital September 3 at the age of 97 years, 6 months, and 11 days. William moved with his family to Northwest Missouri in 1891 and had lived in the Fairfax community ever since.
• Miss Jeanie Hawkins has opened a nursery school at the Christian Church in Fairfax. Attending the Tiny Tot Nursery are Tina Sillers, Eric Peterson, Kurt Oliver, Chris Hicks, Nicky Kemerling, and Ched Moore.
• This year’s Fairfax R-3 Student Council officers are: David Sly, president; Jim Ball, vice-president; Ted Graves, secretary/treasurer. Members are David Thompson, Eddie Dearmont, Marvin McCartney, Linda Whitford, Mark McCartney, Joyce Gigliotti, Kristi Kruse, Dina Pinzino, Mark Fisher, and Debbie Moore.

• Funeral services for Hollis H. Burke of Rock Port, formerly of Fairfax, were held September 6 at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. Hollis H. (Davenport) Burke, 84, established the Dairy Diner in Fairfax in 1955.
• Temperatures hit the 108 degree mark last week and on Thursday, the extreme heat blew out a window on a van owned by Jess Johnson of Fairfax.
• The City of Fairfax received word that the grant for the water tower and well were approved.
• As the new school year began, a few new students appeared throughout the halls of Fairfax R-3. The new students are Paxton Barnett, first grade; Brice Barnett, fourth grade; Jamie Strickland, sixth grade; Ashley Million, seventh grade; and Jennifer Filley, seventh grade.
• Wayne Freeman of Fairfax grew a 60 pound squash in his garden. “I planted the seed the first of May and watched it all summer and it kept growing and growing,” he said.
