Martha Helen Cline, age 82, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at her home. She was born October 6, 1942, in Trenton, Missouri, the daughter of the late Ferrill and Leona (Dreger) Boyd.
She was raised attending the Methodist Church in Trenton where she also sang in the choir.
On January 21, 1962, in St. Joseph, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Stewart W. Cline. She met Stew through her brother, Jack Boyd, both of whom were football players at Northwest Missouri State University, where she also attended her freshman year and majored in music.
Martha later received her teaching degree from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. She taught at Rock Port R-II Schools in Rock Port, Missouri, from 1980 to 1994. After moving to Texas, she taught eighth grade at Miller Jordan Middle School in San Benito, until her retirement, at which time Stew and Marty moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, purchasing their dream home up on “Cline’s Mountain” overlooking the lake.
Martha was a musician who loved to play the piano. She played for many years until she was no longer able due to her health. One of her favorite pastimes was to play piano with her granddaughters, Clayre and Audrey. She loved her granddaughters more than anything in the world and was always so interested in everything they were up to – whether it be basketball, track, dance, school or music. Some of her favorite memories were hosting the girls every summer at the lake for a week of fun, which typically included daily swimming at the local pool followed by ice cream, gardening, playing piano, yardwork, firework shows, cooking, and lots of storytelling. A talented pianist, an avid reader and a devoted dog lover, she brought warmth and grace to all who knew her.
Whether filling a room with music, getting lost in the pages of a good book or sharing unconditional love with her dogs, she lived with heartfelt passion and kindness. Her presence brought comfort, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Boyd. She is survived by her husband, Stewart; her daughter, Ellen Cline Parson and husband Bradley; granddaughters, Dr. Clayre Parson and Audrey Parson; and many friends.
A private family graveside service was held Tuesday, September 2. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rock Port R-II School Library. Arrangements were under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
