• Showing at the Paramount in Rock Port: “Streets of Ghost Town” with Charles Starrett, “Crooked Way” with J. Payne and S. Tufts, “Ma and Pa Kettle Go To Town” with Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride, and “Father Is A Bachelor” with William Holden and Coleen Grey.
• Vandals destroyed much property at the W. L. Carpenter farm 2 1/2 miles northwest of Corning some time last week and carried off a windmill, light fixtures, and boxes.
• Regular fall meetings of the Girl Scouts will begin next week at the Atchison County Library on Monday. County librarian Miss Dorothy Proper has been instructing the girls in book mending and folio making. Starting next week, each girl will make a book of her own.
• One of Rock Port’s real landmarks of another day is passing. It is the Campbell residence a block east of the courthouse. William Bickel recently bought the lots on which this house has stood for so many decades that it is doubtful that anyone now living in Rock Port can recall the days when it was at its best. It was razed last week and a new residence will be built in its place.
September 11, 1975
• Bids are now being taken for the construction of three recreation areas on the Missouri River in Atchison County. The recreational areas will include roads, parking, boat launching, camps, and related work. The Watson access will be 10 acres located approximately two miles west of Watson on the Nishnabotna River. The Langdon Bend access, located approximately 1.5 miles west of Langdon, will cover 12 acres. The Hoot Owl Bend access will be around 9 acres located approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Langdon.
• Mrs. Edward “Joy” McKenney, 55, passed away September 9. She had been a school teacher in Iowa and helped her husband farm. She began work as a child welfare worker for the Atchison County Welfare Office in 1957 and dedicated herself to this job until ill health forced her to retire in 1974.
• Blue Jay Corner: If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: Gerry Markham – “Work at Boone’s Farm”; Sheila Case – “Sure wouldn’t spend it in school”; and Mark Lytle – “Shoot snooker.”

• The Rock Port Blue Jays high school football team opened the 2000 season last Friday at Sidney, Iowa. The Blue Jays won 26-7.
• The Blue Jay Corner staff introduced Darin Fritz the new industrial technology teacher, as the new teacher of the week. Mr. Fritz is currently teaching industrial technology, mechanical drawing, computer assisted drafting (CAD), woods, principals of technology, 7th grade intro to technology, and 8th grade exploratory technology.
• Featured Rock Port businesses of the week are Red Star Deli and Graybill Tire and Truck Repair. Red Star Deli, located at 300 Hwy. 136 West, is owned by Tim and Kelly Chard. Kelly and her crew serve up daily lunch specials, ice cream, and drinks, and also offer catering. Graybill, located at the junction of Hwy. 136 and I-29, is owned by Vic Graybill. They offer an assortment of services for semi trucks and chrome accessories and have been in business for 15 years.
• This year’s Rock Port Lady Blue Jays Golf Team includes Stephanie Shandy, Anne Reynolds, Jill Webster, Stefanie Dalrymple, Rachel Crawford, Amy Van Meter, and Carly Michael. They are under the direction of Coach Steve Sayer.
