The Rock Port Tourism Board met August 5, 2025. Present were: Philip Angle, Alyssa Angle, Ashtyn Beatty, Jim Clodfelter, and Alexa VanSickle, board members; Mayor JR Chaney; and Kim Brake, alderwoman.
The meeting called to order at 6:01 p.m.
The August agenda, July meeting minutes, and July financials were approved.
Tractor pull outstanding business includes:
• Jim needs to be reimbursed for insurance that he paid for before the event.
• Philip received a bill from KMA for $2,000 for advertisement.
There was discussion on the Griswold Christmas Light Competition. Tourism Board members want to see the lights of Rock Port from the interstate! Board members approved three categories and prizes for the light competition: 1) Best Lights will receive $300 cash; 2) Most Creative Blow Ups will receive $200 cash; and 3) Best Theme will receive a $100 gift card to Food Country.
Old Fashioned Saturday Night is scheduled for September 20. The Tourism Board plans to do the ball drop and hand out $2,000 worth of Blue Jay Bucks. They will act as $1 for one Blue Jay Buck at any booth during Old Fashioned Saturday Night. These can be redeemed at City Hall or at the following Tourism Board meeting.
No new member applications have been received.
JR updated information about the 175th birthday party for Rock Port.
Voting on the vice-president position was postponed until more members join.
