• Showing at the Paramount in Rock Port: “Beware Of Blondie,” “My Friend Irma Goes West” with Marie Wilson, John Lund, Diana Lind, and Jerry Lewis, and “Champagne for Caesar” with Ronald Colman and Celeste Holm.

• Bartholomew Drug in Rock Port advertises its emergency supplies: first aid emergency kit, $6.50; Red Cross cotton balls, 33¢; Red Cross gauze 5 yard steripak, $1.15; and elastic adhesive bandages, $1.65.

• One hundred hogs and 41 calves were shown at the annual 4-H Stock Show held at the Rock Port Sales Pavilion last Saturday. Stanley Butt of Westboro won the grand championship of the calf division as well as the grand championship of the hog division.

• The latest addition to Rock Port’s Main Street skyline is one of the tallest TV aerials in the community. It has been erected on the Memorial Building by the American Legion.

• Union Avenue Christian Church in St. Louis, Missouri, was the scene September 23rd at eight o’clock in the evening at the wedding of Miss Claire Gentry Weaver and John Henry Cox. John Henry recently assumed the role as publisher of the Atchison County Mail in Rock Port.

• Work began last week on new telephone lines which will serve Rock Port subscribers along Highway 275 and adjacent areas north of town.

September 25, 1975

• Mrs. Doyne Shelton raised three whopper yams in her garden this year. The largest yam weighed five pounds and measured nine inches long and 18 inches round. Mrs. Shelton had about three bushels of the huge yams from her garden.

• With the bell ringing and the whistle blowing Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., George Daughters clattered through Rock Port in the American Legion Locomotive, which is used throughout northwest Missouri in parades.

• Mrs. Beulah Watts, 82, born September 1, 1893, died September 15, 1975, in Colorado. In 1923, she and her husband, Lyle Robert Watts, operated a taxi service. They purchased the Central Cafe in 1927, which was in operation for 47 years.

• Midwest Sewing will combine with a new fabric store called Midwest Fabrics, which will open October 1 at 412 S. Main, formerly Kay’s Sewing and Fabric. Mrs. Rosalee Flanagan will use all the stock from the D & R Fabric store, which is closing September 27, and Al Slemp, her brother, an authorized Singer dealer, will stock several types of sewing machines and vacuum cleaners.

• Old Fashioned Saturday Night was a huge success. Citizens Bank & Trust handed out 400 snowcones.

• Construction has begun on the new dispatch and 911 call center located in the northwest wing of the Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port. Jim Salmond Construction has been awarded the construction contract and Sodbusters has been awarded the electrical and plumbing contract.

• Rock Port Mayor Paul Buck has declared Wednesday, September 20, 2000, as Walter Mulvania Day in Rock Port. This is in celebration of Walter’s 95th birthday and in recognition of all that he has meant to the community.

• Northwest Missouri Industries continues to expand. From the greenhouse operation to sacking candy and dog bones, lawn care, and wood working, the sheltered workshop offers a wide variety of services.

• Samantha Lansdown scored a 700 series Tuesday, September 12, at the Rock Port Blue Jay Bowl. Her three games were 245, 226, and 238 for a total of 709.
