• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “The Man from Colorado” with Glenn Ford and William Holden and “The Inspector General” with Danny Kaye, Alan Hale, and Gene Lockhart.
• Members of the Presbyterian Men’s Club invited the women of the church to a banquet in the church basement last Thursday evening. Thirty-seven women were treated to a banquet prepared and served by the men and complete with autumn decorations and table arrangements.
• Approximately 90 people attended the Fairfax Kiwanis Club’s inter-club meeting ladies’ night banquet and program Tuesday evening in the school auditorium. Everyone enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings and entertainment provided by Charles M. Ramsden from the University of Kansas Lyceum circuit. He plays music on string instruments, mainly ukelele and guitar.
• One day last week, a mother from Washington, D.C., came to Fairfax seeking her 16-year-old son who had run away from the newly-established Boystown in Washington, Missouri. It was discovered that the teen had fled to Maryville, applied with the state employment office, and been hired to work on a farm here.
October 30, 1975
• Youth of the Fairfax Baptist Church and guests enjoyed a Halloween party Saturday, October 25, at the church. Refreshments of cookies, caramel apples, candy, and apple cider were served. After games, everyone was loaded onto buses to visit a haunted house west of town and a cemetery near Corning where they told ghost stories in an empty crypt as two ghosts appeared.
• A land auction to settle the estate of the late Frank Hopkins was held on the premises Tuesday, October 21. The 731 acres of land in four tracts is all located in the Westboro community. Highest price paid was $950 per acre for a 224 acre tract. The 265 acre tract brought $820 per acre, the 160 acre tract $696 per acre, and the 80 acres sold for $650 per acre. The sale totaled $543,660.
• Fairfax native George Booth is the author of a new book, “Think Good Thoughts About A Pussycat.” The hardback edition is a collection of old favorite and never-before-seen cartoons such as only George could create. In the July issue of Esquire, George was pronounced as one of the four greatest cartoonists in the country and depicted himself in a half-page cartoon.

• The Fairfax High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team has been crowned 275 Conference champions for the fifth year in a row after defeating the Lady Rockets of West Nodaway on October 19.
• High school and junior high students at Fairfax R-3 were chosen by teachers as September Students of the Month. They are: Kara Kemerling, Rachel Burke, Tayne Thompson, Lacy Moore, Robbie Pester, Dru Oswald, Courtney Sinkhorn, and Dusty Collins. September Teachers of the Month are Tammie Holcomb and Nancy Harrington.
• Dr. David Scarbrough and his falcon Delta visited the Fairfax sixth graders October 18. The students were reading a book called “My Side of the Mountain” about a boy and his falcon and Dr. Scarbrough told the class that he became interested in falcons after reading the same book in elementary school.
