October 27, 1950

• A trucking contract is at present underway which will see the removal of about 1 million bushels of 1948 and 1949 corn from government storage bins in Atchison County to other points in Missouri. Atchison County has had almost 2 million bushels of corn in storage, the largest concentration in one county anywhere in the United States.

• Robbers who cut a panel out of a side door at Lee Vogel’s big garage and implement building on Highway No. 275 at the north edge of Rock Port got away with a brand new Brunswick Plymouth valued at $1,775, the office safe weighing several hundred pounds, $300 in cash, $4,000 in checks and other valuables totaling $12,000.

• Two new barrel-type, leather-upholstered chairs of the latest design have been installed at the Fentiman & Amthor barbershop. Also added were matching chairs for waiting customers, and a new, late-design cabinet and mirrors.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: Walt Disney’s “Treasure Island” with Bobby Driscoll, Robert Newton, and Basil Sydney.

• Holden Appliance Co. in Rock Port is hosting Jeanne Jordan, home economist, for a cooking school and freezer demonstration November 3.

October 23, 1975

• Montgomery Ward catalog store will open in Rock Port the latter part of next week in the old Husted Electronics store located at 409 S. Main. The store will feature a catalog center and a few items of merchandise for purchase.

• Specials at Greenley’s Market in Rock Port include: Indian Summer apple cider, gallon jug for $1.29; Maxwell House coffee, 1 pound can for $1.29; Campbell’s tomato soup, six 10 1/2 ounce cans for $1; and Nabisco premium saltines, 1 pound box for 59¢.

• The Rock Port Blue Jays defeated the Fairfax Bulldogs 18-0 at Blue Jay Stadium in Rock Port October 13. The first two touchdowns for Rock Port were scored by Jay Erdman. The Jays’ final six points were scored by Jim Knierim.

October 19, 2000

• Rock Port student Heath Haynes visited KETV newsplex in Omaha, Nebraska, for a job shadowing experience. He shadowed news anchor Julie Cornell. They covered a story in Elkhorn, Nebraska, then came back to the studio where he learned how to make a news broadcast.

• This Sunday, October 22, will be the last sermon for First Lutheran’s Pastor Tim Carey. Pastor Carey has been the shepherd of the flock at Rock Port’s First Lutheran Church for the past eight years.

• The dedication of the new streets in Rock Port was held Thursday, October 12, at Rose Lane and Parkeast Drive. Rock Port Municipal Utilities employees, Board of Aldermen members, Chamber of Commerce members, Bartlett & West design engineers, Derr Construction crew members, and Kirkpatrick Pettis public finance advisors were on hand for the ribbon cutting.

• Bill and Marilyn Farmer made a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, recently for Marilyn to attend the International Conference of Play Therapy.

• The Rock Port kindergartners were treated to a trip to the Holmes pumpkin patch in Watson, Missouri. They took a wagon ride through the patch and were given mini pumpkins and gourds.
